New Superman trailer: Fans have now been treated to the first official glimpse of the future of Superman under James Gunn’s tenure and it looks like things will get emotional.
American actor David Corenswet, aged 31, learns the ropes as Clark Kent in the first look teaser trailer as he fills in for Henry Cavill in the role of the superhero.

Superman will succeed the Man of Steel as the sequel explores the challenges of Clark Kent/Superman in his job and relationship with his girlfriend, Lois lane and at the same time,_lex Luthor plan on how to bring down the hero.
The trailer starts with a modern punk style of the main theme of the show accompanied with cold and snowy background scenery in which Superman is lying all injured. It’s not long before his furry pal Krypto the Superdog is by his side to help as Superman manages to muster up a few words: ‘Krypto, take me home.’
New Superman Actor
It remains to note that fans can envision Corenswet portraying the role of the new Lois, the superhero Superman’s love interest at The Daily Planet, alongside the actress named Rachel Brosnahan.
Faora-Z sent her fuller version of strength and might next, saving a little girl from explosion, and Nicholas Hoult was in brief cameo as Luthor.
Carriages are later shown loaded with people who are all hooting at the caped dude, even stoning him on the head but which the great man pays no attention, in his quest.
Of course there is time for love and this Clark is shown gently kissing Lois before flying off into the skies.
It seems the visionary approach that Gunn brought to the new chapter of Superman has indeed started reaping off as fans were generally triumphant on the first look. X user @EverythingDCU_ said: ‘HOLY S*T! The best superman movie of all time is on the way!!! Crying this was intense.’
@SoldierBoyLeon also cheered: ‘[The theme] I had so many chills with.’ It just feels right.’
@SepzenoOfficial said: ‘Whether I speak for everyone or not, it is safe to say this trailer is ideal.’
Giving their verdict, @adamreds33 weighed in: I must say ‘thank you Mr Gunn for taking me back to my childhood for a little over two minutes. It was just so perfect.’
Gunn in his prior statement to angry fans said his new plan for DC production means that Superman will have to start from scratch, therefore the need for a new actor.
In June of 2023, Corenswet was cast for the role and will be acting alongside Nathan Fillion, the HBO’s House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock, Sean Gunn and Twilight’s Edi Gathegi.
It comes after the actor hinted at a disadvantage of gaining so much muscle mass to portray the Man of Steel.
All this we had to do while Bynes , who started filming while still slim, said she was not 238 pounds when she began the shoot. I was 238 at my max,’ he said to the Manly Things (Soft Of) podcast.
He added: ‘I didn’t fit into any of my pants.’
Corenswet said he ‘didn’t feel great’ with his body not responding well to the additional pounds, and he wore 2XL sweatshirts when he was at the ‘biggest’ during this show.
He lost about ten pounds before filming began, and took the role as an ‘alibi’ to be able to try the weight gain.
The Politican star said: ‘I began shedding some weight before the production started and I continued losing it until we began shooting. I shot at around about 228, 230… I know I wanted this to be the reason for getting to know how it felt to try and gain as much weight as possible ‘
Only a few weeks before the release of the trailer the 58-year-old director Gunn said he felt anxious about making the film.
James Gunn: New Superman Movie
In an interview with io9, he said: ‘I’m miserable. Really I’m miserable. But hopefully it’s for the greater good.’
Gunn said that he had a ‘lot riding on’ Superman, and that the DCU on the big screen begins with it but should be seen as a single movie.
‘It is the principal that every thing has to self support. I just don’t want somebody to have to go see this movie, and then read anything else off of it. Now, hear this,’ the filmmaker said once they were able to get down the line and that may bring a little change,’ he pointed out.
Of course there’s seeds being sown there, but that’s never going to be the focus of most scenes for me.
‘It’s always about who gets to the next scene. What’s in the moment? What we are doing to ensure that this is the best movie possible ? And it’s going to stay like that as much as I can possibly make it like that,’ he added.
Superman will release in the United Kingdom on the 11th of July, 2025.
