A few instances that caught the attention are ‘It’s Kiran Rao ‘another gem !!’
In Indian cinema, Kiran Rao proves to stand among the talented filmmakers and once again she came up with something that will spark discussion. Dhobi Ghat (2011) was her previous project where she introduced the audience to a different and rather complex form of cinema. In Laapataa Ladies she maintains the same tradition by providing a social message underneath the entertainer aspect of the story.
Based in the rural area of India in 2001 it narrates the love journey of two brides who accidentally switch their coach in a train. As women move through the garments’ hierarchy and storyline they are forced to realize and deal with the issues of gender constraints, education and power in a male dominated world. Filled with laughter and tears, as well as a touch of social injustice, the film appeals to the viewers and presents a very real story of women from rural areas of India.
A list of actors could take it and really give it that much more in the way of performances.
Pratibha Ranta is debuting with Laapataa Ladies and she is starred along with Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastav, Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma who have done a good job. The analyse is placed against the backdrop of countryside, the realistic and touching story has been admired, and Rao’s direction was able to draw powerful performances from the actors.
Not Aamir Khan but THESE two people were sure of Laapataa Ladies’ selection for Oscars 2025, reveals Kiran Rao
India is dancing with joy as Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies has made it to Oscars 2025 entries. This has been a pleasant upgrade not only to the team but also to movie lovers While there might have been expected plot twists that even the director did not know what was next, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan were always sure of the film gaining recognition?
Creating history once again, Laapataa Ladies is the Indian entry for Oscars at the 97 ^{th} Academy Awards in the International Film Category. Endorsed by Aamir Khan the movie included Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Sparsh Shrivastava in the titular role Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan in pivotal roles.
In a recent conversation with Bollywood Life, Kiran Rao was asked if they were always sure about the film’s selection. In response to this the proud filmmaker claimed that they were all hoping so there were other good flicks on the list. Yet when the announcement was made it become surreal.
She continued further here, “Only Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan were the two who continued saying that they have the feeling in their bones that this would become a reality. Of course, Aamir, Jyoti (Deshpande) and the whole team are thrilled, but I don’t think anyone expected it to happen this way.”
But when asked further about their plans about it, Rao said their only plan for celebration is ‘to give their best.’ There will be a small bash with the cast and crew, but the true celebration is going to be the effort put forth to make the movie more accessible to society.
At the same time Chhaya Kadam also open up to News 18 Showsha saying that she used to have a hunch that Laapataa Ladies could be the selected ones. Laughing as she moved the conversation to, ‘Mera first reaction yeh tha ki yeh toh hona hi tha (My first reaction was it was bound to happen)! That made me and still happy more especially when seeing that i am very fortunate to be part of the group that gets to perfrom for my lovely people. But within myself I knew for certain that this must happen one of these days.”
The actress who acted at All We Imagine As Light claimed that she had a conversation with Rao one day before the big statement. She said that during her performance at the San Sebastian Film Festival the lady who introduced her informed her that Laapataa Ladies was among the movies nominated to Oscars. Over the moon with the news she quickly dialled the filmmaker to wish her. But Rao was in denial mode and said he had no such news of the change and it will be announced only on September 27.
A rather, Chhaya was in a no networking zone then and the call was cut off. Rao then said that he will message her the best time that is possible for her to come and he will want to meet her once she comes back. The actress remembered her rep replying to the messages that were sent to her with, “Thanks, dear. (But we’re going to Oscars)”.
The actress in the Madgaon Express said she sent the last text to Kiran before they got the good news. “When I got the information about the making of the announcement, I texted her and said congratulations,” she continued.
Laapataa Ladies has been selected out of the list of 29 films – Animal, Article 370, Maharaja, Hanu-Man among others.
The realistic humor that is used in the plot of the film tells satirical story in the setting of rural India in early 2000’s. It can be basal on the story based on two brides who gets swapped during a train trip. The full of the twists and turns journey starts as their husbands begin to look for the real bride.
