Virat Kohli Leaving India: The darling of Indian cricket and indefinitely a Twitter controversy over the amount of time he spends in the United Kingdom is Virat Kohli, who is now allegedly planning to shift his base soon. His childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has said that Team India star is planning to shift to the UK soon with his wife Anushka Sharma, and children.

Although specific information regards the subject remains undisclosed for now, Kohli has been frequently visiting London to accompany his wife and his children, especially after the latter got pregnant with the couple’s second child, Akaay.

Why is Virat Kohli Leaving India ?

Why is Virat Kohli Leaving India with Family in 2024 ?

Why is Virat Kohli Leaving India: Virat and Anushka have a house in London, which they twice live since Akaay’s birth. Quite possibly, the couple would move somewhere for good in the UK shortly.

“Yes Virat, based in London with his children, comes with his wife Anushka Sharma. He is going to be leaving India and shifting very soon, so, that is not possible. But, currently, more than cricket, Kohli is busy with his family,” Sharma said to Dainik Jagran.

Kohli at present is 36 years old and he has already decided to retire from T20 internationals. However, much is still unknown as to how many years more the batting great wants to play for India in Tests and one-day internationals. His form of recent has not been that which would build much-confidence on him and the way forward has been a subject of worry among fan and experts as to whether he still deserves to be in the black-star.

Virat Kohli And Anushka Sharma Leaving India: The retirement talks started this year when Kohli had said he will retire and people will not get to see him for some time.

“It’s quite simple,” Kohli had said in a chat with RCB. I agree with this until one considers that as a sportsman, yes, there is an expiration date to our ‘shelf-life’. Well, so I am just working backwards. I do not wish at the end of my career to stand, look at a particular clock and say ‘oh what if I have done this on that particular day because one can continue working even into eternity’.

“So it’s just about not leaving any undone business behind and not have any regrets later, which I am sure I won’t.”

“Once I am done, I will be gone, you won’t see me for a while (smiles). So I want to give it everything I have till the time I play, and that’s the only thing that keeps me going,” he said.

Here are 5 Other Indian Cricketers Who Have Settled Abroad

Before the news of Virat Kohli Leaving India. In the past, many Indian cricketers played a cricket migratory game and moved to other countries in search of better opportunities. Some left to find better employment opportunities, or seek quality life for their children. Some of them also wanted to play cricket for some more years in another country as well.

On that note, it is quite important to have a look on few cricketer who settled some other country after playing for INDIA. Here are 5 Other Indian Cricketers Who Have Settled Abroad:

    1. Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa got his chance to represent India in 2006, and played 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is besides making 1,183 runs. The right-handed batter contested in 205 IPL games and scored 4,952 runs with 27 half-centuries to his credit. Some of them include: He emerged as the IPL champion twice, first for the KKR in 2014 and the second for CSK in 2022.

He bid adieu to all styles of cricket in the year 2022 and usually provides analysis with production houses. The 39-year-old is usually involved in leagues which are usually for the former cricketers.

But Uthappa plans to move to Dubai from Bengaluru. Specifically, he complained of daily facing traffic jam problems in the city, and wanted good education for his children.

In an interview with City Times in June 2024, Uthappa said (via Khaleej Times):

They said that it was more from the kids’ perception. We really needed a great primary school and being aware of how good Dubai is for schools and education and most importantly the safety for children and women. He said it is better to live in India as most of the leagues are outside the country now that he plays for.

I’m now in Dubai for 15-16 months already [I moved here in March 2020]. And they are loving it. Well, I believe that was a precious decision for us especially in relationship to our family,” he continued.

    2. Farokh Engineer

Farokh Engineer, a wicketkeeper-batter represented India between 1961 and 1975. In the 51 international matches, he scored 2725 runs and made 69 catches and 17 stumping.

But in his international carrier he was given a contract chance to play in the England club known as Lancashire. He was said to have agreed to it and defended the side up to 1976, while the public went to long ends to catch a glimpse of the young prodigy.

After retirement he planned to move to Manchester along with his wife Julie who too was from that part of the world. He then financed a textile business and made Cheshire his permanent residence.

    3. Rusi Surti

Rusi Surti played his first One-day international match for India in 1960 against Pakistan in the Brabourne Stadium of Mumbai. India had a very fluctuating experience with him and he finally came and went out in 1969. In 26 tests, Surti got 1,263 runs, which included 9 fifties and 2 centuries. He also breathed his last with 42 wickets to his name, as a fine left-arm pacer.

The Queensland offered him a place to play in the later years of his cricketing career and Surti became the first Indian player to grace Sheffield Shield. He played the side in 35 matches and retired from the game in 1972. He then continued to operate his private coaching clinic and lived in Brisbane.

However, the great Surti passed on in January 2013 in Mumbai due to diagnosed illness.

    4. Budhi Kunderan

Indian born West Indies’ keeper-batter Budhi Kunderan got a sensational call for the Indian team after its chief selector Lala Amarnath witnessed his performance for Railways. Kunderan made his test debut nearly six years later in January 1960 against Aussies; he accumulated 981 runs in only 18 tests including two centuries.

Having been released in 1967, Kunderan inked a deal with Drumpellier, a Scottish club and he lived in Glasgow 1970. He continued and played for the club until the termination of the 1975/76 season. He died from lung cancer at 66, and passed away in Scotland in 2006.

Interestingly, Kunderan’s 192 was the record for the Indian keeper in the tests until 2013 when Dhoni came and scored 224.

    5. Unmukt Chand

Unmukt Chand tighten his position as a future star cricketer after he unlocked the Indian team that won the U19 World Cup in 2012. He was undoubtedly the best batting in India with 246 aggregated runs, and with 111* in a pressure-building final chase against Australia.

Chand played for them in the IPL when he was 18 years and was often a part of the India A cricket team. However, his batting form did not rise as he wanted and thus played his last IPL tournament year in 2016. He thought it wise to retire from Indian cricket and moved to USA.

Nowadays, Chand is actively playing club cricket in USA and also participating different franchise leagues.
