The crops flourishing, the fertile land again covered with sand and the people becoming helpless. This is the pain of those people who face the havoc of Kosi river every year in Bihar. Kosi River proves to be a boon for Bihar at one moment and a curse at the next.
These days, Kosi river is again showing its fierce form in Bihar. People’s lives have been changed in an instant .
But for the people of Bihar, the life of Masha in one moment and Tola in one moment has become a common thing.
The people of Bihar suffer every year from the wrath of this river. This is the Kosi river, which once helps the farmers in giving heavy crops, but the other side of the river shows its fierce form and destroys everything.
The orgy of Kosi river is increasing day by day in Bihar. Many areas were submerged on Monday due to which people had to leave their homes and move away. Officials have revealed that the flood situation is worsening in many parts of the districtsv, Because the dam of Kosi river in Darbhanga district and Bagmati river in Sitamarhi has broken.
Kosi river: lifeline
The importance of Kosi river is also described in the Vedas and Puranas.
Starting from Phanishwar Nath Renu, many poets have written many poems and articles on the Kosi River.
The land in the areas of Bihar where Kosi river flows is very fertile. The crops are very plentiful, hence Koshi is also called the life line of Mithila. Kosi river is also called the cradle of Mithila culture.
But the more happy this form of this river becomes, the more it gives pain by showing its rough form.
Kosi river :fierce form
When Kosi river assumes its fierce form, it destroys everything. It makes millions of people homeless and people keep wandering from here to there.
In the fields where crops are growing, sand dunes are formed, after which they face a lot of difficulty in farming.
Seeing the fierce form of this river, it is also called the sorrow of Bihar. This river has created so much insecurity in the vast areas of Bihar that people are always on their own, there is no time left to see the fierce form of this river.
The dam has broken 8 times-
Kosi river shows its fierce form every year and creates havoc, but its damhas broken 8 times. The last time the dam broke in Kushwaha, Nepal was in 2008.
How can anyone forget the devastation of 2008? Millions of people were made redundant, thousands lost their lives and many saw their homes destroyed.
526 people lost their lives.
Earlier in 1991 Joganiya of Nepal,
Gadol in 1987, In 1981 at Nowhatta in Saharsa districts, Dams have broken in other places too.
Why is the devastation not ending?
Both India and Nepal have been trying to stop the destruction of Kosi River since independence, but till date no one has been able to stop it. The exercise was started for the first time since 1954.
Then an attempt was made to control the rising with the help of dams, embankments and river training workers.
After that many more embankments were built. Barrages were also built to control the flow of water. But all these efforts have proved to be nothing short of.
In fact, many questions have been raised by the people of Bihar about these failed attempts and efforts and will probably continue to be raised in the future too if efforts are not made to control it.
Why did the danger increase this time?
Official methods have revealed that this time the danger has increased because
6.61 lakh cusecs of water has been released from Nepal Barrage on Kosi River. Which is the highest in the last 56 years. This is said to be 3 times more than what it was in 2008. And if this is not controlled as soon as possible, then Kosi river will cause much more devastation in Bihar than what it has caused now.
13 districts were badly affected-
Officials said that around 13 districts including Patna, Begusarai, Munger and Bhagalpur along the banks of Shahid Ganga are already affected by the flood situation. And due to continuous torrential rains, about 13.5 people living in the lower reaches have been affected.
By evacuating a large number of people from the affected districts
has been transported to the relief camp.
Government distributing relief material-
Till now, approximately 30500 plastic sheets and 25600 dry ration packets have been distributed among the flood affected people. The Government of India has arranged for 800 boats to rescue the people trapped in the flood and take them to the shelter camp.
Medicines are being discussed in the flood affected areas. Doctors have also been appointed immediately and thorough investigation is being.8 boat ambulances are also being operated from time to time in the submerged areas. The entire medical team on these boats is ready with mobile phones.
From medicine for animals to feed for animals, the management is being taken into full consideration and is being done.
