Zomato and Swiggy hiked the platform fee to ₹10 during the holiday season. The country’s two popular food delivery apps are expecting to reap from increase in food orders during this festive season although their decision of increasing the platform fee was not well received.

Zomato made platform fees effective from August 27, 2023, at ₹2 per order. Zomato hiked the platform fee to ₹4 per order by January 2024, although some data have shown a platform fee of ₹2. Currently, it levies a charge of ₹10 per order, on the ordering side. The platform fee is universal, even for Gold subscribers and in addition to the delivery fee charged by Zomato.
On X, the altered way to calculate the new platform fee was perceived as a reason for further outrage. Some of the arguments that the X users made were as follows; Every single X user argued that the food delivery charges had risen progressively resulting in ordering in becoming too costly to be sustained.

Why all the charges?
“Food ordering began with free delivery then came GST charges for delivery and packing, platform charges,” responded Influencer Ravisutanjani.
“I strongly feel that it is the right time to say goodbye to Zomato and Swiggy, Flipkart, Blinkit and similar frauds as it has become common for them to loot customers in the name of platform fee, handling charges and what not,” X user Snehil said.
“It would require the customer to pay an inflated cost of food so that they can be allowed to use the platform. Some platforms charge a platform fee to be able to use that particular platform. Business that sign up to utilize the app are charged a commission by the restaurants. And then sacrifice your health and eat outside food”, quipped Aditya Shah.
X users also observed that Swiggy also revised its platform fee at the heels of Zomato.
