Rajasthan: Hari Kishan Parikh wishes to sell his house. So do people including Manju Sharma and several others. Street posters in this Rajasthan town all announce the event. Because: there has been an acute water emergency.
Many people from Sambhar in Rajasthan are being forced to move, as its water shortage is becoming unbearable alongside heavy migration of birds thanks to the salt pans.

The street is filled with posters that say all the houses are being sold because of a huge water problem.
On the side of Hari Kishan Parikh’s house, there is a message saying: “This house is available for purchase.” A major water shortage has arisen which is forcing us to move and sell our home.

The capital city of Jaipur, Rajasthan is about 70 kilometres from Sambhar.
Several homes in wards 22 and 23, especially those surrounding Charbhuja Mandir, display such posters and some buildings are over 200 years old.

It has been 7 years since we did not get water directly to our homes through pipelines from a dedicated water tank. A group of around 200 people in this ward have joined together and explained they want to move out. What would be the purpose of living here if there were no water? We are not concerned, because posters have been put up on every street and they are being seen in 150 homes. After two years of people leaving for other areas, this summer’s water shortage has really hit us hard,” explained Gautam Singhania, local BJP councillor.
At first, there were more than 3,500 people in the camps, the councillor said, but now only 1700 remain and many others plan to move away.

We have rented a place on the outskirts for us to relocate soon. We’ve taken half of our stuff out already and are about to move out the rest,” explained Manju Sharma.
The Congress MLA for the area, Vidhyadhar Chaudhary, said that the people of his constituency are receiving only half of the promised supply from the Bisalpur dam.
Because only 9 MLD of the 18 MLD water at Phulera is getting to the consumers, the area is experiencing a severe shortage of drinking water. The problem is also found in Naraina, Phulera-Sambhar, Renwaal and 163 rural areas, where people must use water tanks to get the water they need. Also, similar posters are beginning to pop up there.
He mentioned during his speech in Vidhan Sabha on January 31st that he had focused on this subject.
Minister Kanhiya Lal Chaudhry stated in his reply that the pipelines are old and not able to carry the full amount of water we expect. I asked in the house when Phulera assembly constituents would be able to see water. The minister said the new transmission line from Surajpura to Sambhar is in construction and will only be completed by 15.06.2025, after which residents of Phulera will get water at least once every 24 to 48 hours.
Phalodi sits in a desert area. Because of fluctuating weather, problems with water supply and wages decreasing, people living there have been selling their land and going to Jaipur, Jodhpur and Gujarat. Phalodi is situated near the Indian-Pakistan border. The use of drone strikes and problems along the India-Pakistan border have made many people in the region concerned about security. They are increasingly selling their properties because of this fear.
There are some other issues to consider. Phalodi is struggling with the issue of betting. Betting is very popular in Phalodi, Rajasthan. Elections, cricket matches and weather conditions are just a few of the things that satta betting covers.
The market in Phalodi had predicted that the BJP will win 115-118 out of 200 seats and the Congress 68-70. As a result, some residents have found themselves in trouble with money. Because people with losses need to find cash, they are selling their homes which is increasing the number of “for sale” signs seen on the streets.
413 drone attacks from Pakistan took place after Operation Sindoor. They were attempted in Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar, yet Indian missile systems stopped them from reaching the target. Drone attacks on May 10-11, 2025 caused a blackout in Barmer and Jaisalmer.
The village of Phalodi is in Jodhpur district and these areas are not very far from the border. The atmosphere has become very tense and has terrified many locals. So, a large number of people have left the city for this reason. Salespeople and others who are able to sell are buying their way out. There are people who are opting out of the profession.
Because governments are not working on their problems, the communities in some villages are putting up “for sale” signs on their homes. Others think they are taking similar steps.
They say that many people are reluctant to leave their hometowns.
