An Uber cab driver harassed a woman who was on a journey from Mysuru to Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. The woman who took to LinkedIn to write a lengthy post also accused driver of demanding an additional Rs 2,500 and was rude to her grandparents at their regular Ola pick-up point in Mysuru.
Uber cab driver demands extra fee & harasses the customer’s grandparents
The woman claimed that the driver then asked her for another toll fee after they got to Bengaluru Airport. Instead of this, he got angry and started threatening the family. But he was able to leave the scene when people started to notice what he was doing. After some days, the driver reached the pick up point of the woman in Mysuru by 10.30 PM and started demanding money and harassed the woman’s grandparents.
This woman posted on the platform saying that the only time she contacted Uber to air her complaint was through the ride hailing app, but she never got any adequate response. In this case I am calling for urgent action. This is not just one case it is about making sure no other family has to go through what this family had to, Pollock said.
The woman also included her ride details with the driver information to the post.
She posted this on LinkedIn and the company has answered her. The communication strategist claimed that the driver asked for ₹2500 apart from the fare from her, but she rejected the demand. The following day, he abused her grandparents, whom she was initially picked from their home by this man.

This is something, I would have never thought I would need to write but safety of course is always an issue and this is an urgent issue. During a recent Uber ride from Mysuru to Kempegowda International Airport , my family & I were subjected to unacceptable behaviour by the driver – (picture attached –(right)), and that made me feel very much insecure and vulnerable,” another woman stated.
This should have ended there and yet last night, things turned for the worse. This same driver showed up at my pickup location in Mysuru at 10:Aug 30 PM and threatening at my grandparents asking for money and saying that he was scammed. His behaviour did not only disturb us but also put our security at high risk as she further said.
Once the post went viral, Uber apologized to the woman and called for an investigation to be conducted into the matter. “Hello Nidhi, many apologies for this ordeal and frankly speaking your family must have been very upset about the incident. A specialised team is already working on it, and we will receive an update in-app as soon as possible,” the company replied.
Nidhi Tara criticises Uber’s response
Responding to the viral post, Nidhi Tara said Uber never responded to her complaints, and accused the firm of being ‘casual’ in handling her issues.
“Even when after escalating issues on hashtag#LinkedIn, here is your grievance team giving me missed calls (my actually my phone basically rang once and as soon as, I picked, the call disconnected),” this she said and publicly shared the conversation she had with the company.
Social Media’s response
Social media shares opinions:
There were no holds barred in the way folks expressed themselves about the event. A person shared his opinion, “Local agencies are more appropriate and trustworthy in the long distance routes.” I also never had an issue while travelling from Dehradun to the Delhi airport.”
Another wrote, “Please take your attention to this post and let there be serious consequence where necessary. This is not the feel that one wants out of an UBER ride, awaiting your response Sooraj Nair from Uber.
A third stated “At first, Uber hardly provides a good customer care service or safety services”. I have been a victim of several times when the drivers move into side, quiet, and/or low light roads during night or early morning against my wish to use the main road. This is particularly the case in Bengaluru; and using public transport alone at night is very unsafe.
I don’t feel safe as an Uber driver, and more so as a woman driving alone to the point that I do not fully trust the Uber drivers or even their safety team. Having contacted through the application, using the SOS features, sending emails, and even publishing on Twitter, Uber still does not respond adequately. Instead, they have shut the case ending my argument without recognizing the issues that I pointed out. It is now about time that Uber brought and applied min basic safety measures for the people of India.”
