After India-Canada Diplomatic Showdown, Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau late Monday intensified the barrage of criticism of India by accusing New Delhi of intimidating South Asian Canadians and supporting crime against Canadians.
India-Canada Diplomatic Showdown
India-Canada two countries this week equally reciprocated a second round of expulsions of diplomats in a worsening dispute of allegations of involvement of “agents of the Indian government’ in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen, last June.
India, which has not reacted to these latest remarks, has formed a special committee to look into the claim. However New Delhi again and again has thrown out the accusation its linked to the murder calling it absurd and motivated without any evidence this is a very created controversy against New Delhi.
On Monday Delhi also stated that since the claims were laid the Trudeau regime “has not provided a single piece of evidence to the Government of India, despite numerous international requests…”
In comments after India expelled six Canadian diplomats – including acting High Commissioner Stewart Wheeler and his deputy – Mr Trudeau said he had provided information about the allegations to the Five Eyes partners, especially the United States.
The previous complaints were indeed simply that public servants of the Indian government within diplomatic missions in Canada conspired to – through questionable and even criminal conduct – information on Canadian individuals… that is relayed to criminal organisations in India for the purpose of extortion and murder So these latest allegations constitute a step up inasmuch as the Indian government is accused of co-ordinating a more sophisticated effort to ensnare Canadians.
I believe it is rather clear that the Government of India made a grave mistake in believing that they can incite criminals against Canadians, on Canadian soil. Whether it is murder or extortion or any violent act it is absolutely out of question,” Mr Trudeau added.
Mr Trudeau also said, “We expressed our worry to the indian government and sought their cooperation…”. But he stated that such requests had been “repeatedly denied”.
That is why, after India-Canada Diplomatic Showdown this weekend… Canadian officials took rather unique measure. The intended ‘collaborators’ met Indian officials to discuss RPC (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) findings, where it was suggested that six agents of the Indian government are ‘persons of interest’ in criminal initiatives. As much as we have urged the Government of India to take this action, they have chosen not to co-operate.”
‘Canada has all the regard for the sovereignty and intact terrains of India and in a similar manner we anticipate the same from India,’ he stressed.
This happenstance of allegations targets Mr. Trudeau’s decreasing support and plummeting popularity; last week he only narrowly passed a second parliamentary confidence vote in as many weeks before an election in 2025.
The comments emerged following a RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme and Assistant Commissioner Brigitte Gauvin who told Canadians about a public safety concern but with little information. They would only speak about investigating and having evidence regarding ‘links’ with the Government of India of at least eight murder suspects arrested and charged, and more than 22 accused of extortion.
Asked about the current “public safety threat to Canadians” today, Mr Duheme urged the citizens report incidences of ‘intimidation, harassment, coercion, or extortion, in any form or manner, to obtain information for the Government of India’.
The current row escalated when Canada foreign minister Melanie Joly using information from Royal Canadian Mounted Police gave six Indian diplomats deportation order. “They must leave Canada…” Mr Trudeau pointed in damning and precise terms: “I want to be clear… the material produced by the RCMP cannot be dismissed…”
India later in a press release said it was withdrawing the six officials due to security reasons.
On its part, Delhi has escalated aggression on the Trudeau government noting that; there vices against its envoy-Sanai Kumar Verma are ludicrous and deserves to be greeted with contempt.
Delhi also stated that Mr Trudeau’s “hostility to India has long been in evidence”.
Sanjay Verma is the oldest serving Indian diplomat who has served India for 36 years of tireless diplomacy. He has been an Ambassador in Japan and Sudan, as well as in Italy, Turkiye, Vietnam and China,” the foreign ministry said adding that the allegations are part of a “pattern of vilifying India for electoral purposes.”
