A woman aged 62 years was tied to a tree and it is alleged that she was burnt alive by her two sons in west Tripura, said officials on Sunday.
Police claimed that the sons have been apprehended and the heinous crime might have resulted from family feud.
This event took place on Saturday night in Khamarbari of the Champaknagar police station they said. The woman was a widow and had the above two sons with her at home after her husband passed on, about one-and a-half years ago. Her other son resides at Agartala.
Cops after getting informed about the case of a woman who was burnt, quickly reached the place to find the charred dead body tied to a tree.
We moved the body to the hospital for autopsy and as per rules any police personnel involved inлашëhant gets a CAT scan done,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jirania Kamal Krishna Koloi told PTI.
They have arrested her two sons as they believed they played a role in the case. They will be produced before the court on Monday for police remand for interrogation.
This happened at night on the 29/09/2024 in khumbari, the area having jurisdiction under the law of champaknagar police station. The cause of the act was said to be a family dispute according to the police.
Once, when a member of the police team reported by phone that a woman was set on fire, the police team dashed to the place and saw a burnt body hanging on a tree. The body was moved to the hospital for autopsy, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Jirania Kamal Krishna Koloi said.
Two sons have been arrested for the said incidence and will be produced in court today, the police will prayed for a remand in order to interrogate them further.
He said that the conflict could have been precipitated by a family affair , The polygamous setup of the society may have been the cause of this incident’, he said. There is an investigation conducted regarding this issue, he said.
