Where Does Indian Passport stand?

The passport of India has been ranked 73rd in the world along with Ghana and Gambia. The 30 countries are visa free and 44 are visa on arrival and 124 are visa before traveling.

What is the Passport Ranking Index and How it Works?
Henley Passport Index – Henley and Partners is a world leader founded in 1997 in ranking the world passports based on the number of destinations that their holders can visit without prior visa. The Henley Passport Index is a comparison of the visa free access of 199 passports to 227 traveling destinations.
Global Passport Power Rank – According to Arton Capital, Passport Index which is a creation of 2014 is known as the reliable source of information regarding passport power in the entire world. It consists of 199 passports which are ranked in terms of their Mobility Score (MS).
Indian Passport Ranking in 2025

In the case of passports people either consider it as their entrance to the whole world or the restriction to their freedom of going around. Passport Ranking has the system in which the passport of a specific country is ranked based on how many countries their holders are allowed to visit without having to seek a visa.
As stated earlier we use two large indices of this data and they are The Henley Passport Index and The Global Passport Index.
The calculation used to determine both the indices is different and this is why the ranking varies. The two indices take into account the visa access of the Indian passport to 199 countries.
For Henely Passport Index:
The passport is awarded 1 in instances where:
No visa is required
VOA is provided.
Visitor permit or,
There is an electronic travel authority (ETA).
A 0 score is given when the passport holder would need to apply an e-visa to the countries that provide an e-visa to Indians, or when he or she needs a compulsory visa before he or she could depart. On the same note, no score is provided when pre-departure approval by the government is required in visa-on-arrival countries in case of Indians.

For Global Passport Index:
The ranking of individual passport is estimated by use of a three tiers approach:
Mobility Score (MS): This incorporates visa-free (VF), visa on arrival (VOA), eTA and e-visa (when issued with 3 days)
Part of their score that is Visa Free versus Visa-on-Arrival.
A tiebreaker is the United Nations Development Programme Human development index 2018 (UNDP HDI).
