Consumption of the laddu prasadam at Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh is still high and continues to be a market favorite even after the furore over the use of animal fat and other substandard products. The TTD board revealed that over 13 lakh Laddus were sold in four days from September 20 to September 23.
On September 19, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu accused the current opponent and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s led government in the tainted Laddu prasad at tirupati temple.
Also on the same day, the Telugu Desam Party, which is the ruling party, through one of its spokespersons Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy, produced a report by NDDB CALF, a private laboratory, the samples of the ghee used in Tirupati laddu manufacturing contained foreign fats – palm oil, fish oil, beef tallow and lard (pig fat).
Nevertheless, the current campaign of the laddu sales is not affected by the outrage it received across the country. For more than three lakh laddus were being sold each day from September 20 onwards.
On behalf of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) the executive officer J Shyamala Rao wishing to assuage the fears of devotees have asserted that any apprehensions related to consumption of laddus at the temple can be put aside because the sanctity of the ‘prasadams’ have been revived through a cleansing ritual.
FSSAI is reported to have recently sent a show cause notice for violation of norms to a Tamil Nadu firm, AR Dairy Food Private Ltd exporting low-grade ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, TV channel India Today sources informed.
The food regulator in the said notice requested from the AR Dairy Food Private Ltd why its central licence should be suspended on the ground of contravening the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011.
Tirupati Laddu controversy an ‘attack’ on Hindu sentiments, says Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati
Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of the Jyotish Peeth in Uttarakhand, on Tuesday called the tirupati laddu prasadam controversy as an attack on Hindus and demanded that law take its proper course against all the offenders.
The shankaracharya was in Patna since last some days as part of his Gau Raksha Yatra being undertaking across the country.
Speaking to PTI, Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati said, “It is an assault on the feelings of Hindus… It is the oppression of millions of Hindus. That is a component of the organised criminal operation. It is a big betrayal done to hindu community…this must be probed thoroughly and strict action should be taken against all those involved in this.
Well, it is not absolutely proper to term it as a controversy… It is way more than that. On the one hand, if one Mangal Pandey refused to open the greased cartridges from mouth during the 1857 revolt, then it opened a revolution in the country. But today it was put in the mouths of crores of Indians….it’s not a small thing. The whole matter should not be investigated through research.”
According to Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, it is painful for we Hindus to forget this kind of incident.
Calling himself a nationalist and at the same time protesting against cow killing in the country, he called for an enactment of law prohibiting cow killing.
We indeed have demanded a complete ban on the slaughter of cows and equally we are praying for a tougher law against this cruel activity…It is shocking that beef export is going on in the country is increasing rapidly. In this regard the Central government has to come forward to take concrete measures. While on one side Prime Minister Narendra Modi entertains cow and feeds peacock on his residence then on the other side beef export is on the rise in India, he said.
“We don’t have much expectations from politicians on this front,” he said, adding that they cannot even start thinking for Hindus.
Every politician swears to be secular once they join a political process… This is the reason why we shall coordinate all Hindus, for prevention of clow slaughter in the country…,” he said.
Regarding the demand of the opposition parties to hold caste-based census in the country, he said, “There is nothing wrong in it…The matter should not be politicised. This caste-based census has to be taken to enable the government to make further preparations with regard to the welfare of the people from the socially backward class groups.
Regarding the Centre’s decision to amend the Waqf Act, asked for comments, Pujya Sri Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj said In response to such propertied pertaining to the earth The food distributor for humanity… Waqf land should be given to us and they will turn them into grass grounds of cows.
