The Reliance Industries Limited in its annual report stated that Telecom provider Jio contribution in the overall data traffic in India was 60% in the financial year 2023-24. According to the report, the investments on next-gen networks and other related digital technologies would assist the company to continue maintaining the competitive advantage while at the same time increase on the market share.
Jio is planning to release the next-gen fixed wireless networks which will firstly activate the high-speed broadband services; at the moment rural expecting even more usage of their services because currently they have less last mile infrastructure as per the report.
Here, the company’s target is to scale up these before venturing into the rest of the world.
“Jio today has created data capacity to fulfill over billion Indians for their digital needs at homes, offices, on the go, Jio market share of data traffic today has gone up to 60% thereby become the most preferred Broadband network,” the telecom major said in its annual report.
The usage of data per capita for the company was also at its peak in March, at 2 con. 87 GB per month increase in the overall data traffic to nearly 149 exabytes in the financial year 2023 – 24 as the number of Jio’s 5G users and fixed broadbands went up, the report said.
Total user base of the telecom company has come a record 48 in mobile and fixed line category. crore was lent to other organisations and 8 crore was lent to households, though 19 lakh of this was lent to own households. Of the total 8 crore, 5 crore came out to be the 5G users and 1 crore were the 4G users. 2 Crore fixed broadband users.
Qualcomm and Reliance Jio partnership is set to continue as the two companies are strategising on how to provide cheap 5G solutions.
Mr. Ambani’s led company pointed out the fact they have been favored in the development of 5G infrastructure in the country, which will assist in gaining a larger market share.
‘The Jio True5G network now holds nearly 30 per cent of Jio’s mobility data traffic and the entire 5G data is now carried on Jio’s own 5G 4G combo core Jio is the only operator in India to launch 5G on standalone architecture,’ said Reliance.
However, the company also emphasised that any entrant with a disruptive technology would render the existing one obsolete and such a new firm might distort the price structure in telecom sector and affect Jio’s future earnings.
However, there are targeted endeavours toward developing skill-sets in AI/ML, robotics and AR/VR, the company said.
As part of offering better services to the customers, Reliance Jio telco was the first to share that it would revise upward the tariffs. Mobile Telecommunications Company, Reliance Jio proposed new mobile tariffs that ranges from 12-27 percent higher than existing rates. This company has also limited the availability of free 5G service offerings to the consumers. The company has increased mobile service tariff for almost all the available plans.
