Australia and New Zealand were being co-hosts of the 2028 event which allowed them to be automatically qualified. Under the qualification guidelines, each Super Eight is now guaranteed to play the 2028 tournament namely New Zealand and Australia.
Unless there are any changes in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, the following three highest-ranked teams in the list of 12 automatic qualifiers will be filled in by 9 March (the next day to the planned final).
Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Ireland will also claim those positions with no international match at any change on their standings till the cut off date.

Qualified in T20

India: 6 points in Group A, +3.050 NRR
The Super Eight has had a full fledged march by Co-hosts India who beat Pakistan by 61 runs in Colombo on Sunday. Their record in the tournament currently is perfect in three matches out of three.
India as the bidding country on their third T20 world championship opened the 2026 edition with the USA. All was not well immediately in the start since the defending champions were left with 77/6. They were dug out of a hole by Captain Suryakumar Yadav who scored an unbeaten 84 to help the team win by a margin of 29 runs.
The talent pool of India has been commendable as there is at least one player who has come forward, and held himself accountable. Having swung them a 93-run victory over Namibia by playing an all-round role against them, Ishan Kishan played the one handed 77 that deposed the game against Pakistan.
Everything is falling into place with the champions on defense.
Sri Lanka: Group B with 6 points that have a +2.462 NRR.
How a tournament can be that successful to the co-hosts! Having begun with a 20-run victory over Ireland at Colombo they have never looked back.
They followed up a mighty onslaught of 105 off Pavan Rathnayakes 60 off 28 and Kusal Mendis 61 off 45 to seal a 105 win over Oman at Kandy.
It is however their latest work that truly attracts the interest of the world. On their second consecutive battle at Kandy, the home team showed unadulterated superiority over their superior counterparts Australia. They treated the target (182) allotted to them lightly, as a result of which pathfinder Pathum Nissanka scored 100 with emphatic perfection on 52 balls. It was unstoppable as he guided Sri Lanka to win by eight wickets with two overs to spare which qualifies them to the Super Eight.
West Indies: 6 points in Group C, +1.820 NRR.
The batting line-up of West Indies is a battalion of power when the team landed in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. And the batters have so far disregarded the scrutiny that they have now three consecutive victories to their credit.
They began with a 35-run pawn against Scotland and they dominated with a nine-wicket triumph over Nepal ensuring the achievement of qualifying. It was however at the hands of England they performed their best. Heading 196/6 was Sherfane Rutherford who headed the rampage of the team. West Indies gave England the sack on 166 on a batting pitch dandy with which statement they intended to show.
The West Indian pacifiers have not been left behind and Romario Shepherd achieved a 5/20 and Jason Holder attained 4/27 against Scotland and Nepal respectively.
The last instance when a Men T20 world cup was in India, West Indies were not expected to win but they did under the stewardship of Daren Sammy. Coach is a position under which Sammy finds himself once again, and he is hoping to be declared an encore.
