Spiritual orator Jaya Kishori finally opened up on the controversy which erupted after she stepped out with a custom Dior bag worth over ₹2 lakh. A 29-year-old preacher was pictured carrying the custom Dior “Book Tote” at an airport. Ms Kishori’s photo soon went viral with followers and critics questioning her.
Responding to these criticisms, Ms Jaya Kishori said, “I am a normal girl, I live in a normal house, I live with my family. I tell the same thing to the youth that you should work hard, earn money, give yourself a good life, give your family a good life, and fulfill your dreams.”
She then made me realize that her Dior “Book Tote” was customized, to be quite clear, she did it leather-free.
“The bag is a customized bag. There is no leather in it and customized means that you can get it made as per your wish. That is why my name is also written on it. I have never used leather, nor will I ever use it. Those who have come to my ‘Katha’ know very well that I never say that everything is ‘moh maya’, don’t earn money or renounce everything,” she said.
She doubted her integrity as a spiritual preacher who always spoke of disconnection with material possessions. A user on X commented, “Spiritual preacher Jaya Kishori deleted her video where she was carrying a Dior bag worth ₹ 2,10,000. By the way, she preaches non-materialism and calls herself a devotee of Lord Krishna.”
Responding to the flurry of posts criticizing her, Ms Kishori said on Saturday, “I haven’t renounced anything, how can I ask you people to do so? On day one, I told everyone that I am neither a saint, sadhu nor sadhvi.”
Ms Kishori has a huge following in social media. The religious singer and preacher enjoys an over 12.3 million followers on Instagram alone.
