Social media has been abuzz after a video with rats swimming in utensils and revolving inside pots was recorded in the Indian Institute of Technology IIT Roorkee’s mess.
The students said the footage was recorded inside the mess of Radha-Krishna Bhawan at the institute of IIT Roorkee situated in Uttarakhand. They claimed that they saw rats inside utensils used for cooking foods, rice bags, frying pan and even in pots containing water used to prepare foods.
It happened on Thursday in the afternoon when students who had come to the mess for lunch saw the rats in the kitchen. The presence of the small animals scared the students and some of them complained that they could have consumed food which was handled by rats. IIT Roorkee Decides on Fake Information Labeling the Video
But, IIT Roorkee dismissed the allegations and claimed the video in question as misleading through an official statement.
“After the preliminary investigation of the event that was reported at Radha Krishna Bhawan mess, it was established that the video, which is circulating in the social media, was shot by students who had gone to the mess at night. This footage displays rats only in a restricted part of the mess where did substandard utensils and things not fit for consumption were kept. There was no element of contamination of food items. From the provided videos, it seems that it was a clear act of attempt to portray what the situation was all about.”
Subsequent to the initial probe on the complaint received from the UT Administration about the incident occurred at the Radha Krishna Bhawan mess, it has come to light that the video which has gone viral on sharing site was shot by some students who had visited the Mess late at night. This footage reveals that rats were traced to an enclosed section of the mess in which only non-food items including utensils were found. None of the food items were affected. The videos seem to be planting a wrong perception of the situation,” it says.
The administration also said that they have considered the viral video as well as launched an investigation into the case. Reports have been made $almost immediately and investigations are now underway in order to fix the problem concerning the hygiene standards of the cafés. The health of the students themselves is the foremost consideration. “In any such cases, outside special experts are involved to get a proper evaluation and avoid future mishaps,” IIT Roorkee media in-charge Sonika Shrivastava told India Today.
