Rashmika Mandanna responds to the controversy surrounding Animal, in which hypocritical reactions to misogyny and violence promotion are addressed.
Animal by Sandeep Reddy Vanga with Rashmika Mandanna and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead roles was one of the insanely successful movies even though it was criticized due to excessive use of violence and misogynist attitude. Writing about the experience of the movie under criticism, Rashmika shared with Mojo Story in a recent interview, whether it allowed her to sleep.
Rashmika Mandanna for Animal

Rashmika, as she defended Animal, said, she would give up a film should she ever be asked to smoke on the screen and she simply saw the movie as a movie. When a hero is smoking on the screen, people say he is making other people do the same. However, in the contemporary world, the issue of smoking among people is quite natural.
I do not watch a movie with an intention of being influenced by it. To me, I would never smoke on a screen but this is my opinion. Even when I belong to Animal, I will say go and watch a film as a film. Now, when a person is going to get some influence then watch your movies. No one is making anybody to watch a movie. then all movies would be blockbuster.”
According to Rashmika Mandanna there is royal grey in each of us

On the debate of the film, Rashmika stated that she was not surprised at it and further asserted that there are grey characters in every one of us and we are not just black or white. We are all a bit greysome. It is only that Sandeep Reddy Vanga talked about a deranged character and that is it. Apparently, I have heard that people have celebrated it since it was making the numbers.
And, therefore, I did not feel there was need to be disturbed by the conversation. We did the movie, it was successful, people did not like it or liked it – that is their own matter. Human beings ought to be going to see a movie just as it is, and not be harsh on an actor just because he or she acts such characters. It is agent acting with purpose.”
She further noted that actors are just acting on the Big screen and are not the real character as they appear on the screen.
About Animal
The action drama movie is based on Ranvijay Singh (Ranbir Kapoor), a son of an influential industrialist (Anil Kapoor), and their strained relationship that has only been worsened when his father had an assassination attempt. Vijay is changed into a merciless man and goes on a rampage of killings and devastations.
The movie was also criticised as misogynist in tone and celebrities such as Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut gave it open criticism.
Nevertheless, in spite of the criticism, it turned out to be a colossal box office hit as it grossed 915 crores globally. Another film, Animal Park, is currently in development with Ranbir Kapoor reprising his role as the main actor in the film. The director has admitted that after his next film with Prabhas, which will be titled Spirit, the director will start filming Animal Park.
Animal Rashmika Mandanna

Rashmika Mandanna in Animal played the Geetanjali role as the source of emotion and moral guide throughout the film, which was interspersed with so much violence, incessant chaos and internal psychological struggle. Her personality was opposed to that of a very troubled main character played by Ranbir Kapoor, and was used as a provider of some light and emotional moments in the otherwise dark story.
Under the direction of Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the movie has raised considerable controversy since its release in December 2023 as it is accused of upholding toxic masculinity, demonstrating negative gender dynamics, and romanticizing a truly troubling male protagonist.
