Ramesh Singh Criminal Case The gut-wrenching torture and murder of an 11-year-old hearing and speech-impaired girl in Narsinghgarh, Madhya Pradesh, has once again put serious question marks on a legal system that sets free repeat rapists. Ramesh Singh, the accused, had a chilling past of crimes against minors, but was repeatedly acquitted in the courts.

Ramesh Singh Criminal Case: A Trail of Crimes, a Broken System
Ramesh Singh, a resident of Dabripura in Polaykala, raped a 5-year-old girl in 2003 in Mubarikpur village of Shajapur district. He was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Upon release in 2013 after serving his sentence, he re-offended.
The 8-year-old girl was kidnapped and subsequently brutally raped by him in Ashta (Sehore) in 2014. This time, the lower court gave him a sentence of death.
Unfortunately, in 2019, the High Court overturned the judgment on technical grounds, saying that the presence of the victim’s father during the identification parade could have influenced the outcome.
Thus was Ramesh Singh set free once again, and another innocent child paid the price.
The February 2025 Horror in Bhopal | Criminal Ramesh Singh
On the night of February 1-2, an 11-year-old girl deaf and mute went missing from her house in Narsinghgarh, Bhopal. The next morning, her body was found from the bushes, bearing signs of horrendous injuries. The medical examination confirmed the sexual assault. Due to her deteriorating condition, the victim was shifted to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, where she succumbed to death on February 8.

In this case, the police themselves were the complainants and constant source of investigation.
A thorough examination of the CCTV footages from 136 cameras across 46 locations was conducted. One man in a red shawl and blue-black sports shoes was caught on camera loitering around the crime scene and later identified as Ramesh Singh. He was traced by the auto driver to have taken a lift from Kurawar to Narsinghgarh.
When he went for a Maha Kumbh bath, he fled to Prayagraj, where the police pursued him while conducting an investigation. He was apprehended whilst on board a train going to Jaipur.
The manhunt counted 16 police teams and involved 75 personnel, including 9 station in-charges.
Rajgarh SP Aditya Mishra said police have constituted a Special Investigating Team. “The evidence is being cross-verified. DNA profiling and cross-matching are being done, based on his modus operandi, to establish if he links to any other unsolved cases. Wherever required, cross-referencing will be done.”
