Weddings in India are a grand affair with multiple days filled with rituals and colorful celebrations. With such a rich cultural mix, every region and community provides its own peculiarities.
A couple recently celebrated their diverse regional backgrounds by turning their wedding invitation into a tribute to unity, calling it the “Bharat Jodo Vivah.” It takes inspiration from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, an initiative to unify different cultures and communities.
The couple went deeply into showcasing their diverse regional backgrounds in the wedding invite: Abhilasha is from Jammu and Bengal and Vinal has roots in Punjab and Kerala. The wedding invitation card mentions, “daughter of Jammu and Bengal” for the bride and “son of Punjab and Kerala” for the groom.

Sharing the wedding invitation card, the bride Abhilasha Kotwal wrote, “When your wedding is more diverse than a coalition government, you know it’s truly special! @RahulGandhi @priyankagandhi — our love story embodies the values you champion. Would be honored to have your blessings!”
Abhilasha went a step further and invited two Congress leaders to their wedding. Years back, the wedding invitation of Priyanka Gandhi was designed by Abhilasha’s mother, which made an emotional bond between the families. Abhilasha hand-delivered the invitation to the residences of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
“It feels so surreal to have just dropped the #BharatJodoVivah invite to @RahulGandhi & @priyankagandhi ‘s residence. Got to know, years ago my mom designed & printed @priyankagandhi’s wedding invite. It would be an honour to recommend your blessings.”
The wedding card went viral, drawing reactions from several social media users: “This is beautiful,” a user wrote. Another user commented, “This is So beautiful. blessings to both of you spread love.”
