What all transpired when Putin held bilateral talks with PM Modi in BRICS Summit 2024?
In the just concluded bilateral talks Putin also reminded about his host PM Modi’s visit to Russia in July this year.
“It makes me recall the meeting we had in the month of July I think we had a good discussion on may issues. We also used telephone frequently in a number of occasions. There are separate acknowledgments for receiving the invitation and for coming to Kazan.”
“Today we are planning to attend the opening ceremony of the BRICS Summit and later that day, the members will be having dinner. We should take some very important decisions during the upcoming meeting with other leaders during the BRICS Summit”, Putin said.
“I would like to underline that modern Russian-Indian relations have the character of a particularly privileged strategic partnership and continue to actively develop,” Putin said.
The tenth annual meeting of leaders of the informal group of countries China, Russia, India, Brazil, and South Africa – BRICS as it is known – is underway in the central Russian city of Kazan.
PM Modi has hailed success of the BRICS grouping for the reason that many other countries desire to embrace this group.
So far, we have been communicating with all factions in the Russia- Ukraine conflict. This has always been our stance – all problems can be negotiated. To that effect, the team would like to think that there are ways of solving problems that aren’t violent. India is always ready to help bring peace, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
At the end of the event, there will be a ‘Kazan Declaration,’ during which five more countries will officially join the BRICS association.
It is PM Modi’s second visit to Russia in the same year to attend the BRICS Summit 2024. He had the bilateral meeting with Mr Putin in July when he visited Moscow to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit held in July. He was also awarded Russia’s highest civilian honour – the Order of St Andrew the Apostle – at the Kremlin.
India Russia enjoy ‘special and privileged strategic partnership’.
Mr Putin: Russian-Indian relations are a special type of privileged strategic partnership that continue to be actively built, he said to PM Modi.
India also directly buys Russian oil in large measure — a circumstance that is anathema to the West. The United States and its partners in the west have been backing Ukraine and seeking to punish Russia in commerce. India has said it stop purchase oil from wherever it finds fit which will in turn benefit the people of India.
