The Army Chief of Pakistan, General Syed Asim Munir who was on an official visit to the United States, was in the middle of a major embarrassment as he was heckled in Washington. Protests were made by the Pakistan nationals and the people of Pakistani origin around the hotel of Munir in Washington, demanding again to restore what they termed as unfettered democracy in Pakistan.
Social media was filled with videos of people chanting slogans such as–Asim Munir, you are a coward, shame on you, mass murderer, shame on you, dictator and Pakistaniyon Ke Kaati (Killer of Pakistanies) as the army chief came out of the building. We can also see people with the authorities arguing and trying to discharge them so that they can not enter the premise.
In another video, one may also see a mobile electronic billboard parked opposite the building where it promotes slogans such as Asim Munir, Mass Murderer, and Democracy does not prevail when guns talk.
It was said that the demonstration was organised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sympathisers who were against the present Pakistani establishment. After the announcement of the visit of Minir, the opposition PTI led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan already filed a protest outside the Pakistani embassy in Washington long before he actually came.
The visit of Munir to the US
In a report published by Dawn, Munir arrived in Washington on Sunday on a five-day official visit to strengthen military and strategic ties with the United States.
The visit, sources said, was bilateral in nature, although does coincide with the US army 250th anniversary celebrations due to be held June 14.
Earlier, there was the chatter in international quarters that the Field Marshal of Pakistan was invited to the Washington Military Parade on Saturday but the White House had dismissed trees that Asim Munir was invited to be in the Washington Military Parade on Saturday as being absolutely false.
The Dawn report clarified that though Munir was in Washington on the day of the military parade, he did not attend the event.

The Cabinet of Pakistan under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has promoted the Army Chief General Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal. The title is being bestowed on him only for the second time in the history of Pakistan after Muhammad Ayub Khan in the year 1959.
Another aspect that led to the promotion of the General Munir was considered by the government as his involvements in the recent military conflict with India known as Operation Sindoor. Few days past, General Asim Munir who was given a drubbing in the army has now been made a field marshal on the basis of these bizarre and ludicrous allegations less than 10 days later.
According to critics, the general is accused of self-promotion and why the government chose to do this, especially at a time when the military is seen to have lost some battles in the course of this war.
The elevation of General Munir to Field Marshal has been highly trolled on the social media house (X), now Twitter and its users pondered on why he was promoted. A number of them cited the recent military losses by Pakistan in the war against India when the Indian armed forces managed to intercept and bring most of the Pakistani drones and unarmed aerial vehicles down.
Other users also cited rumours of Pakistani air bases being bombed in the process of the confrontation as another reason why they were sceptical of the promotion. The outcry in online world shows the lack of correlation between judgement the government made and the performance of the military which was seen by people.
This announcement received a lot of mockery on social media networks with people making fun of this move which the Pakistani government took as a self praise move that was based on lies. The online response was saturated with sarcastic remarks and comedic interpretations, showing how in the eyes of the people things did not go as the government would like them to.
