RG Kar Hospital Rape Case: A former civil volunteer Sanjay Roy was on Monday awarded life imprisonment till death for raping and murdering a trainee doctor inside the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata last year.

The court today fined Roy ₹50,000, and provided the state government to pay ₹17 lakh to the family of the deceased doctor to the family.
Das J submitted that the crime did not come under the ‘rarest of the rare’ which justified the fact that death penalty was not to be imposed on the convict.
What Sanjay Roy’s Mother Said About this Incident
Sanjay Roy Kolkata: While the mother of the convicted killer of a doctor in a sensational gang rape in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata last year stayed locked in her home, she also declined to speak to PTI and other media newsmen who thronged her residence after the court’s decision was announced, PTI mentioned.
Malati Roy, 75, chased the reporters away from their compound after they started congregating around her house. “I am ashamed of everything,” she said before she told the media personnel to leave her alone.
Saying she has three daughters of her own, Roy said she knows how the doctor’s family must feel and will not Challenge the court.
If the court agrees that he be hanged to death for his offence then I have no qualms about it – as the law has proven him guilty. There will be nights I will cry alone but will call it as their fate, as destiny wishes it to be,” PTI quoted her as saying.
How Sanjay Roy’s Mother is Handling the Situation
Roy’s mother also hid herself in her house and did not address questions by reporters on the verdict on monday. She shouted ‘I don’t wish to utter a single word’. I am ashamed of everything. Please go away.”
Both the brothers and sisters of Sanjay Roy were absent on the verdict day, and any proceedings day. One of his elder sisters, who stays with her in-laws at mother’s house, had said, “There are reports that Sanjoy was not alone at the crime scene.
I hope that, all those involved in the investigations directly or indirectly were involved rightfully in the investigations. The rest, any other person involved should be called to account.”
Some of the neighbors that came out said they believed that Sanjay couldn’t have done it alone and that there must have been other people who contributed.
