A week after strange lights were reported hovering over an Indian city called Bengaluru, a NASA astronaut filmed red and green colours swirling over Chicago on a spaceship.

It moved out into the station from my crew quarters on the ISS when Crew-9 arrived. I now reside in Dragon Endeavor waiting for the ship to undock. We usually get most of our images from the cupola but sleeping has been fantastic here . This is the scene from the window tonight. I wish I was home with my family and friends but we would have missed today’s insane aurora if we had undocked today, he posted.

‘Mindblowingly cool’
The narrow and faint auroras, barely observable over cities because of light pollution, were the result of the most recent solar flare.
