Mahakumbh 2025: The additional commissioner of police in Prayagraj on Friday has made it clear that restriction will be clamped during Mahakumbh Mela period of to avoid any law and order problem in the region.
The prohibitory orders will be from January 16 to February 28 under the section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Thus, the order was passed without prior to that giving any notice to other stakeholders, said ANI.
The order was passed keeping in mind the Mahakumbh, and several similar celebrations like Republic Day, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Sant Ravidas Jayanti, Maghi Purnima, Valentine’s Day, Shab-e-Barat, Mahashivratri etc, as well as competitive examination.
From the official report of the ACP quoted by ANI, and due to the communal sensitive nature of the district, and based on the information received from reliable source, the ACP ’conclude that is probable that some anti-social elements disturb the law and order of the district.
Considering the foregoing mentioned festivals, it becomes dire important to maintain the peace.
It also said that the prohibitory orders are necessary to ‘effectively curb all such activities of anti-social individuals/others in the public interest’ to ensure fight-safe celebrations of various religions and competitive exams, among others.

Mahakumbh 2025: What Are The Restrictions?
In a plan under the order, the following restrictions apply
- Nothing can be done without permission, be it an event, procession, fasting, demonstration etc. Being in a particular road, provoking or broadcasting such events without the requisite permission is also prohibited too.
2. No person, organisation or group of persons will resort to demonstrating in any other place other than the protest zone near Patthar Church at Police Chowki Dharna place, Civil Lines Police Station in the district.
3. Any unmanned aircraft cannot be operated in the area unless prior clearance is given and the exceptions are those that are police or administrative.
4. Nobody within the limits of Commissionerate in Prayagraj shall be carrying a lathi, danda, axe stick and any form of lethal weapon or any firearms. Exemptions include; walking canes used by disabled or seniors and personal swords known as kirpan as used by Sikh people. Police and those employed in administrative positions are also exempted.
5. Abusive incitements/ orations or literature such as stapled notices/ advertisements which might cause offensive feelings of a person(s) or community is strictly not allowed.
6. No person shall put any post, article, photographs etc. likely to breach peace or sentiments of other religion through social site or any other media.
7. No person shall sell, play or display any of such audio/video cassettes and C.Ds which are likely to cause confusion and bring about tensions in the society.
8. Any destruction of any form on any private or government property shall not be done by any person.
9. Citizens cannot lock or bar any industrial, or commercial establishments and stores. No interference should be made in efficient running of the government departments, industrial and commercial establishments and processing plants or in the disposal and supply of required articles.
10. The following prohibitions are agreed: no person shall prevent the buses and other vehicles of U.P.R.S.P.N. from running or from getting at or doing damage to any other vehicles.
11. No person shall wilfully place an obstruction on a public place or interference with the flow of traffic thereon.
