The incident, which occurred on the night of August 9, has raised troubling questions about institutional negligence, possible evidence tampering, and the role of law enforcement in all of this.
This case has taken some major turns in all of this including arresting a key suspect, Sanjay Roy, and also transferring the case to CBI.
The case began on August 9 when a second-year postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital had dinner with her juniors and then decided to rest in the seminar hall.

The victim’s father expressed grave concerns, as there were clear indications of sexual assault, and accused the hospital of delaying the investigation.
The family was made to wait 3 hours before Allowing to see their daughter’s body which only added to how the investigation was handled in its first stages.
“Your daughter died by suicide”: The Assistant Superintendent of Chest Medicine Department said to the victims parents however the police claims They never called it a suicide.
If it not for the further investigation that was sparked due to students and doctors refusing to bow down this case would have been another statistics for rapes in India and would have ended Up being a cold case where we once again wouldn’t know who was the attacker.

Seeing some serious flaws in the investigation And how it was handled the case was transferred to the CBI.
As reported by business today:
“On August 14, a peaceful protest titled ‘Reclaim the Night’ turned violent as a mob breached the R.G. Kar Medical College, where the crime occurred.
The mob vandalized hospital property and clashed with police, resulting in multiple injuries. The protests, initially fueled by social media campaigns, reflect the nationwide outrage over the incident.”
PM Modi also expressed concerns over safety and violence Of women in India while the daughter’s father refused a compensation offered to him saying that it would hurt his daughter.
CBI received approval from a Kolkata court to carry out a lie detector test on Sanjay Roy.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused, Sanjay Roy, had consumed alcohol before committing the crime, India Today quoted police sources as saying.
“The senior doctors, colleagues of the victim asked for videography, that means even they felt there was a cover-up,” Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the victim, was quoted as saying by LiveLaw.
Moreover, Solicitor General Mehta said that the most shocking fact of all is that the FIR was registered at 11:45 pm after the cremation of the deceased.
This all and all is showing just how poorly this Investigation was handled and not with delicate care which the case required.
So far The CBI Has also uncovered that this may not be a Gang rape as so previously thought.
As per our conversation with a woman we got our insights on this case and how she feels:
When asked how do you feel about this case?
One replied,”I feel numb, because I have seen this happen ever since I Understand what rape was. I have seen outcry Bigger than this in the Nirbhaya case and there is anger and hope and this bleak perspective of once it cools down it will go back to the same old casual sexism and this problem will never be nipped in the bud. I still feel the onus is still on me to protect myself and no one is going to come forward unless it’s too gruesome ”.
We also asked the question of “ Do you think it’s a never ending cycle for India”?
She replied with,”See it might come off as pessimistic but unless we really spearhead our social science institutes and talk about sex education in our country than the future might not be as dark as we think and we can break the generational Cycle but The past decade has been showing regressive trends to the extent of Denying the rape culture”.
“Are there any steps that could have been taken to prevent this or any steps taken so incidents like this never happen again?”
We got the reply of,”I only believe in long term solutions as Of now and I believe that we need to gain the trust of the citizen’s in the legal system and then implement the current laws more efficiently and I also believe we should stop trying to associate honor with a woman’s body”.
So it seems that the legal system of India and the police need to work better to gain trust of India back.
