Human Freedom Index, Top 10 and Bottom 10 Countries: The United Nations Charter Principle 1 also stated, “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” with a clear and urgent importance to recognize the rights to liberty of every person.
Freedom of the society is crucial to create optimum development of people and the community as a whole. Because of this it greatly affects the welfare of people and creates opportunity to study its relation to political factors, economic development, and other forms of welfare.
However, the report was released earlier this year, and it shows that there has been a decline in freedom across the world, the average human freedom rating from the previous year at 6.79 to 6.75 this year.
So, while at present there is a great percentage of freedom in the world, it is still important to note that only 13.8% of the earth’s population live in the top one-fourth of the jurisdictions and 37.6% live in the bottom one-fourth of the jurisdictions.
The Human Freedom Index measures 5,143 policies in 165 countries, which cover 98.8% of the global population’s personal, civil, and economic freedom: Here are the highest-scoring 10 countries as well as the lowest-scoring ones.

According to the report, the actual ratings of the levels of freedom were the highest in the regions of West Europe, with the high results of the human freedom subindexes, and the indexes of personal and financial freedom for such countries as Switzerland and Ireland.
It also notes that the jurisdictions in the first quartile of freedom have a significantly higher average per capita income than those of the second, third, or fourth quarter, besides the well established correlation between human freedom and democracy.

Please note: While many debates have been made pertaining to the concept of liberty, the aspect of freedom according to the report is “Freedom – a social concept of man’s worth and liberty that empowers man without coercion.”

Freedom in the world has declined notably in the last 20 years and nearly everyone has actually seen their freedoms shrink with many jurisdictions experiencing declines so across the world today there has emerged variation in the freedom distribution with only 13.8 percent of the freedom being in the top quartile and 37.6 percent in the bottom half.
China with large population is the primary reason for this disparity and is in the lowest freedom quartile of the index while Nicaragua, Syria, Hong Kong, Egypt, Turkey and Hungary have register largest reduction.

Instead, the lowest levels were among the Middle Eastern and North African, sub-Saharan African and South Asian countries mainly due to the wars or political instabilities which caused humanitarian crises constraining both the personal and political freedom and high rate of human rights abuses.
What rank does India occupy in the Human Freedom Index?
109 World, the slight improvement of two positions for the previous year.
The Canada’s overall index score of 6.06 risen slightly, its personal freedom index at 6.62 and, economic freedom index 6.29 up by 0.03.
However, even in this context, India fares somewhat better than its neighbors: China, 149, Bangladesh, 139, and Pakistan, 132, on the same respective Index.
