Leddy Hollywood acting director and film-maker, Rob Reiner is dead together with his wife Michele in their home in Los Angeles.
Police and firefighters were sent to the home of the couple on Sunday afternoon in one of the upmarket neighbourhoods in LA and this event is under investigation by authorities as an apparent homicide.
Reiner is reputed to have directed the traditional movies in diverse genres such as When Harry met Sally, This is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, Misery and A Few Good Men.
In a statement to media in the US, a spokesperson of the family said that the couple had died. There have been tributes made by high-profile names in Hollywood and politics as well because Reiner was an advocate of liberal causes and Democratic politics.
The family statement said, it was with deep sorrow that they announced the tragic death of Michele and Rob Reiner. It is a sudden loss that breaks their hearts, and asks them to be left alone in this inconceivably hard period.
Police announced that a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were declared dead in the house but police failed to protect the couple immediately and understand the circumstances under which they died.
No-one was also said to have been arrested yet, but a person of interest or suspect is being sought by police.
The BBC reported that a spokesperson of the Los Angeles Fire Department got a call at approximately 15:38 local time (23:38 GMT) that they were required to offer some medical assistance to a house in the neighbourhood of Brentwood, which is populated by many celebrities.
The homicide was also detected and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has sent robbery homicide detectives to investigate the homicide.
The LAPD provided no information about who was killed and what they discovered when they showed up in a Sunday night news conference.
Remote of the police and firefighters, the deputy chief, Alan Hamilton, indicated that the two bodies were still in the house, over six hours after they had been called to the house.
The police press conference held on Sunday night also did not provide information on whether or not the two had any injuries and there was or is no weapon that had been identified and used. Hamilton mentioned that death cause would be ascertained by the LA coroner department.
Chain of Hollywood books
The son of comedy legend Carl Reiner started his career in the 1960s and became a big player through the 1974 breakthrough TV sitcom All in The Family playing Meathead.
It was a US adaptation of a British comedy of Till Death Us Do Part, and won him two Emmy Awards.
Reiner had another hit with cult mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap in 1984 that he directs, and players on-screen director, Marty DiBergi.
This overcame a streak of successful Hollywood films directed by Reiner, such as Stand By Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992), the last of which earned him an Academy Award nomination as best picture.
He came back together with Spinal Tap to write long-awaited sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues that came out in September.
He has also been an actor and has featured in The Wolf of Wall Street, Postcards from the Edge and Bullets Over Broadway as well as TV shows such as New Girl and The Bear.
‘A huge loss’
On X, Monty python star Eric Idle wrote he had conversed with Reiner about an hour and a half the previous evening. Idle said that the two met 50 years ago and Reiner was a talented and clever, as well as very intelligent man.
In a declaration to NBC News, Kathy Bates who was featured in the Misery film Reiner directed back in 1990, stated that Reiner gave her life a new direction. Bates said that the late director was a man who shoots films of all genres to test himself as an artist and his wife Michele was a gifted photographer.
John Cusack, another actor who starred alongside Reiner, termed Reiner a great man and Elijah Wood said that he was horrified by the deaths of the couple.
James Woods, who was nominated at the Oscar due to his role in a film Belief directed by Reiner, in 1996, Ghosts of Mississippi, remarked that he was shattered by this awful incident.
Ben Stiller, a comedy star and the director of the movie remarked that it was a great loss. Stiller added that Reiner had produced some of the most defining films of my generation, and proceeded to explain: “Spinal Tap is one of the greatest comedies of all time – and it does not end at that.
Frozen actor, Joshua Gad, called Reiner one of the best directors of our time and says: Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle were the nicest and sweetest people you could imagine. He was so affectionate of indisposed ones.
‘Powerful voice’
The other co-founded company is the Castle Rock Entertainment production company, which was a successful one by Reiner.
He had a relationship and marriage to the actress of Laverne and Shirley, Penny Marshall, between 1971 and 1981 and he is a biological dad to the daughter of Marshall named Tracy Reiner.
In 1989, he wedded actress Michele Reiner who is also a photographer and producer and remembered encountering her during the filming of When Harry Met Sally. The three children are the product of a union between the couple.
Michele was the owner of Reiner Light photography agency and production house.
Reiner too had been a vocal activist in social and political agendas, and Democratic political nominees.
Other politicians who made their own dedication include the former US president Barack Obama who reportedly said that he, and his wife Michelle, were devastated by the deaths of the couple.
He Obama wrote about the accomplishments of Rob in film and television, which provided him with some of our most treasured film screen stories. There was, though, a profound faith in the goodness of people under all the stories that he created, and the simple desire to test that faith was the devotion to act on it, a life long devotion.
The former House speaker Nancy Pelosi stated: It is difficult to find someone more remarkable and excellent in all those areas and endeavors they achieved. Rob was imaginative, hilarious and adorable. And in all their efforts, Michelle was his inseparable companion, intellectual property, and adoring wife.
In the meantime, the California Governor Gavin Newsom stated: Rob was an outspoken supporter of children and of civil rights – as a champion against Big Tobacco, of same-sex marriage, and an influential advocate of early childhood education.
