Holika Dahan 2025: Rituals
The performance of Holika Dahan mantra takes place during the fire ritual ceremony dedicated to this festival. The ritual invites devotees to give prayers to Holika’s spirit for maintaining peace while seeking divine happiness.
People terminate their prayers through multiple fires visited thrice, five times or seven times with water vessels in their hands. Devotees finish their vessels only when the last round of the walk-around is complete.
Traditional foreheads tatooing occurs for devotees after performing the ceremonial Holika Dahan bonfire. Shortly after the Holika Dahan ceremony people begin consuming roasted or baked seasonal products. Fans of the festival consider it lucky to transport Holika ash for their homes.
