US President Donald Trump today said in a social media posting that it appears that we have lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China, before sarcastically wishing all these three nations a happy, prosperous future.
Earlier in the week Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin.
Seems like we have lost India and Russia to blackest, darkest China. And together may their years be many and successful! Trump wrote on his Truth Social.
The remarks constitute the most explicit, thus far, public recognition Trump has given to the growing alliance between New Delhi, Moscow and Beijing. The three leaders openly talked about collaboration across the energy and security sectors, and they all, at various levels, disagreed with Washington on matters such as war in Ukraine and global trade policy.
Washington has long considered India as a possible counter to Chinese growing influence. Republican and Democratic administrations had been investing in the development of New Delhi as a strategic partner. During his first term Trump personally courted India, standing next to PM Modi in the 2019 Howdy Modi rally in Houston and renewing the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) with Japan and Australia.

However, as of late, there is an indication of a chill in relations. Experts point to tariff actions as well as criticism of the energy trade with Russia by Trump, as both reducing the power of Washington.
The SCO summit in Tianjin was the first time PM Modi visited China in seven years, which is a major milestone as the two countries have been at loggerheads with each other over the years, such as the fatal border dispute in the Galwan Valley in 2020. This meeting with Xi and Putin allowed PM Modi to signal his readiness to make strategic independence more important than his alignment with any of the blocks.
Since coming back to power, Trump has introduced a total 50 per cent tariff on Indian products -25 per cent of two-way tariffs and another 25 per cent on top of this, a tariff on the Russian oil imports of India. The tariffs are one of the highest Washington has ever imposed on any of his trade partners.
Trump has made numerous claims to the effect that the trading relationship has favored India. Very little business with people in India, but a huge business with us–but very little business with India, said he recently. It has been an entirely one-sided catastrophe. India also purchases the majority of its oil and military products in Russia, but hardly any in the US.
The energy trade has become a hotbed. Trump has alleged that Moscow has been financed in its war against Ukraine by India using its acquisitions of discounted Russian crude oil. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has responded that the US has not subjected the same criteria to China or the European Union, which also continue to be major importers of Russian energy.
The Latest Rant Trump Has Made On India, China.

On Truth Social, Trump had written: “Lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest, China it seems. May they live long and fruitful life together! The remark was made in the context of mounting trade war and the recent visit of PM Narendra Modi to Tianjin, China, as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, where PM Modi and Xi Jinping of China were spotted taking camaraderie on stage besides Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In response to the questions about the post, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal replied saying, “At this point, we are not able to comment, will get back. However, in the larger context of the India-US relationships, he sounded a very decisive tone: The relationship is anchored in substantive agenda. We are in negotiations and we are enthusiastic about this partnership.
Anti-India Remarks of Navarro Dismissed.
Jaiswal also denied contemporaneous comments made by White House trade adviser Peter Navarro who has been making a string of bizarre anti-India utterances. We have heard false and misleading remarks on the part of Mr Navarro, we reject them, he said.
The MEA echoed the longstanding stance of New Delhi in favor of peace in the war in Ukraine. Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, we applaud all the new initiatives towards peace in Ukraine. We wish that everyone moves forward constructively. Jaiswal added that India favors a premature termination of the war, and the creation of a lasting peace.
SCO Impact on Donald Trump
It appears that the SCO meeting of three nations (India, China, and Russia) has fulfilled its purpose. Part of the reasons the three leaders convened in China was to send a message to America that they can make other choices once the United States is not willing to work with them and threaten to impose tariffs on them.
Today, the most recent comment made by Donald Trump which openly demonstrates that he is a victim of this categorizing is foaming at the mouth.
The Tariffs by Trump Negatively affect India-US Relations.

Donald Trump put tariffs on India to buy Indian oil and not to sign a bilateral trade agreement with the United States on its terms. Indian government has made it very clear that it will not yield to US pressure and would do in the national interest.
MEA of the Remark by Donald Trump on Losing to China.
Through the weekly press statement, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Randhir Jaiswal, commented that they cannot say anything about this post, at present.
At this moment I have nothing to say about this post, said Randhir Jaiswal.
