Having brought heads turning at the Met Gala 2025 with his grounded-cum-rebellious look, singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh was recently spotted in the same frame with music royalty, again not on a red carpet, but on a global platform that witnesses the future of music.
Diljit discusses the invitation to Shakira tour
Diljit also appeared as a special speaker at NXNE on June 11, 2025, in Toronto, at TIFF Lightbox, in Canada, where the Billboard Summit was launched. In what is being billed as a first of an Indian artist, the Born to Shine hitmaker was involved in a discussion with Panos A Panay, President of the Recording Academy, which runs the Grammy Awards. Diljit team had posted a bit of the conversation on their official Instagram handle.
Panos, alluding to the now- Legendary Met Gala car moment with Shakira and Nicole Scherzinger, Diljit was questioned, You know, you have worked with Sia. I was watching your video this morning with Ed Sheeran. The rumours are that you carpooled with Shakira. I wonder what you think of these collaborations in artistic perspective as well.”
Shakira requested Diljit to give Indian version of Hips Don’t Lie

Diljit responded to this by saying, Hips don,t lie, sir… getting the crowd to applaud, she continued, “She took me in her tour and she asked me to release an Indian version of Hips Don’t Lie. That will be a tight one, said he, but I am sure I shall find it.” The team of Diljit also uploaded the video where he talks about his attachment to his Indian roots and representing them on the international level.
Similar to me, as a part of the Punjabi culture, I am blessed, first of all, and I am highly grateful to my mother tongue, who selected me to carry his scent to this, on the international scene. Regarding Diljit making his debut at the MET Gala
At the beginning of this year, Diljit made jaws drop with his Met Gala debut. He proudly represented his Sikh community by stepping the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Indian clothing, a turban, kurta, and tehmat, which were created by an Indian fashion designer Prabal Gurung.

However, what really made the news was a backstage episode, a Nativo video shared by his team where Diljit is seen enjoying a luxury vehicle with Shakira and Nicole Scherzinger.
Shakira, in the clip, cannot contain her excitement as she introduces him to her fans shouting “Diljit! Diljit!” and he in return greets him with a friendly namaste.
Then she waves into the camera and greets, “Hello India.”
The other image that Diljit,s team posted on their Instagram handle during the evening was a photo with the three of them together at an exclusive dinner hosted by Anna Wintour. (ANI)
