Emmy 2024: The Levys have been heralded as the inaugural father-son duo to host the prestigious Emmy Awards. Their remarkable achievement includes winning Emmys in 2020 for their contributions to the final season of “Schitt’s Creek,” a series that was recognized as the outstanding comedy series of the year.
“For two Canadians who have won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the opportunity to host this year in a real theater was a significant incentive,” the Levys stated in a joint press release. “We are delighted to have the honor of celebrating this extraordinary season of television and eagerly anticipate the evening with you all on September 15.”
The 76th Emmy Awards are set to be hosted by the father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, who co-starred in the Emmy-winning sitcom “Schitt’s Creek.”
This year, “Shōgun” has been the most-nominated series, securing a total of 25 nominations. “The Bear” closely follows with 23 nominations, while “Only Murders in the Building” has received 21.
In addition to the big-name shows on display, 36 first-time performer nominees are in contention for Emmys, including Jonathan Bailey, Dakota Fanning, Lily Gladstone, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Paul Rudd, Ryan Gosling, and Greta Lee.
Anthony Anderson hosted the 75th Emmy Awards in January, which was initially scheduled for September 2023 but was postponed due to Hollywood strikes. The 75th Emmy Awards were notable for featuring numerous cast reunions, celebrating stars from iconic shows such as “Martin,” “Cheers,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” and paying tribute to those who have passed since the previous Emmy Awards in September 2022.
“For two Canadians who have won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the opportunity to host this year in a real theater was a significant incentive,” Eugene and Dan Levy expressed. “We are thrilled to have the honor of celebrating this extraordinary season of television and eagerly anticipate the evening with you all on September 15.”
“Eugene’s and Dan’s comedic insight and remarkable ability to captivate audiences will ensure a memorable Emmy Awards telecast that honors this year’s best and brightest,” Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group, commented.
The Levys will join the ranks of the most recent hosts, including Anthony Anderson, Kenan Thompson, and Cedric the Entertainer.
“We are delighted to welcome two generations of comedy geniuses to the Emmy Awards stage as hosts,” Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego announced. “Eugene and Dan Levy are renowned for creating unforgettable moments of laughter on screen, and their collaboration is truly remarkable. I am excited for Emmy fans to witness what they have in store for us.”
The Emmys will be broadcast on September 15 on ABC and will be available for streaming the following day on Hulu.
