To honor his son James Colin Farrell is starting a foundation and giving us a rare glimpse of their life in the process which was covered in an exclusive Interview with People.
As reported by page six:
The actor gushed about his “magic” 21-year-old, who has Angelman syndrome, in his People cover story published Wednesday.
“I want the world to be kind to James,” he told the magazine. “I want the world to treat him with kindness and respect.”
Farrell, 48, shared that “once your child turns 21, they’re kind of on their own,” explaining, “All the safeguards that are put in place, special ed classes, that all goes away, so you’re left with a young adult who should be an integrated part of our modern society and more often than not is left behind.”
The love for the child and worrying for them at every turn never goes away no matter how much you think you are ready to let go.
We think the star is feeling the same about his son who he gushed about at how much he loved him.
Farrell’s son is not an ordinary son but a magic one. His son has Angelman syndrome, a rare neurogenetic disorder.
To live with a rare person is a rare thing itself. You learn to adopt their lifestyle and provide them the best you can yet you have to let them grow on their own and figure out the world by themselves.

Inspired by his son, Colin Farrell launched a foundation which he promoted in an exclusive interview with People.
“I can’t ask James if he wants to do this,” said Farrell, to which he clarified,“I mean, I can. I speak to James as if he’s 20 and has perfect fluency with the English language and age-appropriate cognitive ability. But I can’t discern a particular answer from him as to whether he’s comfortable with all this or not.
“So I have to make a call based on knowing James’ spirit and what kind of young man he is and the goodness that he has in his heart,” he continued.
When asked about how his child would feel if he were to answer the question, Farrell concluded, “If James knew getting his photograph in the back garden with me … could help families and other young adults who live with special needs, he would say, ‘Dad, what are you talking about? Why are you even asking me? It’s a no-brainer.’”
Well what can we say looks like Colin Farrell is a proud father and he is also proud of his son every day.
As also Reported by page six:
Although Farrell rarely speaks about his son’s rare neurogenetic disorder, he told “Today” show viewers in 2017 that raising a special needs child is “brutal” at times.
“They can tear at the very fabric of your heart, but the love shared and the pure strength and heroism observed is the needle and thread that mends all tears,” he said at the time.
It’s sometimes hard and sometimes a battle but you learn your way through it.
And not only only but you also bond with your loved one over it. You learn things all over again with them and it’s such a tiring yet wonderful journey to have.
Starting this foundation was a great idea by Colin Farrell and we are proud of him and his son who inspired this Amazing idea of his.
Here’s to hoping the best for this foundation and may it succeed at its best.
