Billy Joel shared how he went through a difficult and painful period in life as a singer and pianist. After premiering his documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes at the Tribeca Festival, the great musician revealed that he had attempted suicide twice and left a period of coma because he was having an affair with his former bandmate’s wife.
‘It felt like I broke up a family when my nightmare started,’ said Joel.

Joel started his musical career by forming Attila, a band with his closest friend Jon Small, when they were both about 20 years old. At this period, Hunter moved in with Small and his wife, Elizabeth Weber, along with their son, as stated in People.
She said in the documentary that living with Bill Joel was a long, careful process for her. After that, Small noticed something strange and Joel revealed the truth: “I’m in love with your wife.”
It made me feel extremely guilty. They became parents. I thought I was messing up their family, so I said, “I was just in love and I got beat which I deserved.” Jon was feeling very unhappy. I felt very emotional at that moment.
Because of this argument, Attila and Gelu did not remain friends for some time after that. A number of years after their initial marriage, Elizabeth and Joel renewed their pledge to each other and were married from 1973 to 1982.
Billy Joel deals with struggles due to depression
I did not have a home to live in. During that period, I would fall asleep in laundromats and turned really depressed, possibly almost going psychotic, he said in the documentary. At that point, I just decided it was the right move. Life has become so hard for me that I don’t want to continue living. I was in a lot of pain and since I knew tomorrow would be the same, I decided not to see anyone. I simply chose to end it all,” according to People.

Billy Joel’s sister, Judy Molinari, was a medical assistant and she supplied him with sleeping pills to help him rest.
Yet Billy made a choice to accept all of those pills… For days and days, he stayed unconscious and I went to see him and he was as white as white could be, she explained in the documentary. I was sure that I had killed him.
The only way I can think of to explain Billy’s reaction is because he loved me so much and it hurt him that much to see me hurt. After some time, I was able to forgive him.
His last suicide attempt led him to think he was “lost” and then seek care in an observation ward. The prison time Joel went through was life-changing and he was released not long after. He got out of the observation ward and thought, “I can use all those emotions to write and create music,” as told by People.
Billy Joel’s Health Crisis Revealed After He’s Forced to Cancel All Tour Dates
He was recently referred to as 76-year-old singer-songwriter who has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus.
May 23, a statement revealed that his recent concerts have made his condition, involving hearing, vision and balance, worse. In a genuine letter, Joel said,“I am truly sorry to let you down and I am grateful that you understand.”

The public is worried about Joel’s health since his accident at a concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut held earlier this year. A viral video revealed that the musician lost his balance and ended up fallen on his side during the attempt to interact with the crowd.
The entertainer was able to quickly recover and keep going in the performance.
On Instagram, Joel shared that all his upcoming shows have been canceled and he was supposed to play in New York City, New Orleans, Toronto, Santa Clara, Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C. and Liverpool.

“Although I regret having to put off shows, I have to put my body first,” the singer recently said on Instagram. It will be wonderful to be back on stage and give our great fans a unique live music experience. I appreciate your patience.” It is reported that the pressures of performing on the road have escalated the problems Joel deals with.
Following the orders of his doctors, the singer is working on his rehabilitation with physical therapists and should not sing during his recovery. I am grateful for the high quality care I am getting and am fully dedicated to taking care of my health. Thanks to the support from fans during these difficult times and I will enjoy taking the stage again in the future.

Since 2015, Joel has been married to Alexis Roderick, who is 42 and they have two daughters named Della, 9 and Remy, 7.
He is also the father of Alexa, who is 39 years old and shares the same mother with him, Christie Brinkley.
Based on a RadarOnline report, the source explained that the actor has to keep up with his wife and kids, even though they are much younger than him. Although he is always active, acting like an Energizer bunny, Tom has had many periods spent mostly in bed because of health concerns, not making him the fittest one around.
The source said: “Billy thinks he can get away with anything, but age is making its mark now.”
