May 22
The couple hit the road in the morning by renting a two-wheeler from Keating Road. The guests checked out after going through customs. The customers packed two bags and shared with the manager that they would come back by May 25 and call if they wanted a room.
They chose a scooty for their journey to Sohra, which is a famous tourism place in Cherrapunji. They also paused at Mawlakhiat village in the area of East Khasi Hills. When they arrived, they parked their car and looked for a person who could guide them to Shipara Homestay in Nongriat village.
May 23
The tragic events happened after the couple was seen walking side by side in the morning. After checking out of the Shipara Homestay, they could not be found. The final place on their phone’s records was in Nongriat. At this point, Sonam dialed her mother-in-law on the phone for what we still do not know. There is a recording showing she was breathing heavily because the trip had been extremely difficult for her.
According to him, he did not get hired by the couple on their way back to Mawlakhiat. According to them, they would handle the process of going back by themselves.

Authorities kept looking for the couple, because there had been no sighting for more than 24 hours. The situation got even stranger when their scooty, which they had rented, was found in Sohrarim village. Not even Sonam Raghuvanshi or her father Raja could be located.

While flying, a drone found what appeared to be a half-decomposed body in a gorge by the Wei Sawdong Falls. The authorities confirmed that the body belonged to Raja Raghuvanshi later on.

The police confirmed that they have retrieved the mobile of the deceased as well as the machete believed to have killed him from close to the scene. It is obvious that this is a case where homicide took place. The East Khasi Hills SP (Vivek Syiem) said there was no doubt that the man was murdered.

Sonam arrived in Ghazipur late last night and after calling her brother, she was taken to the police station by the officers.
According to UP Police, the girl was with a mild fever at the Kashi Dhaba in Nandganj, while the media reported that the girl surrendered because of pressure from Meghalaya police. Afterwards, she was arrested together with three more people.
As soon as Sonam is delivered to Indore Police at Ghazipur, the UP DGP has confirmed that she will not be questioned by UP cops.
On the other hand, the Meghalaya police stated something else had happened.
Meghalaya Police stated that after accusing Sonam of ordering her husband’s murder, she handed herself over to police at the Nandganj police.
They arrested the suspect after intense searches and she will be sent back to Meghalaya, IGP Dalton P Marak stated.
Sonam’s father does not believe she killed her husband and suggests the Meghalaya police are just trying to manufacture things.

On June 2, the husband’s dead body was found with signs that his murder was caused by a machete. Still, there was no traceable sign of Sonam until June 8. Night fell and she got to reach Ghazipur, where she contacted her brother. A few minutes after all that, the cops showed up and took her away, according to police and her own family, the UP police said.
Police in Uttar Pradesh say Sonam came to Nandganj sad and suffering from fever at a dhaba while police in Meghalaya insist that she gave herself up at the station.
It was after pressure that the woman decided to surrender, according to Meghalaya Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Dalton P Marak. The Meghalaya police also reported that two suspects came from Indore while a third was from Lalipur in Uttar Pradesh.
