Mumbai founder raises alarm over AI taking away white-collar jobs in India: ‘End of middle class…’, 2025

Atomberg founder Arindam Paul warns the nation faces an upcoming crisis related to artificial intelligence. An estimated 40-50 percent of current white collar positions today are predicted to vanish according to Paul when he wrote this on LinkedIn explaining that such a development would be the end for India’s middle class consumer economy.

Similar to Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu he issued a warning about software job security in an artificial intelligence future scenario.

According to Paul the current leaders of India together with most citizens have insufficient understanding of the massive economic dangers artificial intelligence poses to the nation’s workforce.

The present state of production lacks the necessary strength to produce jobs that would pay between 3-6 lakhs annually according to Paul’s assessment.

Paul delivered a pointed prediction that Indian IT and BPO sectors would experience both reduced personnel levels and significant business scaleback. In his assessment Infosys along with other IT firms will persist but new recruitment levels will fall far below their present figures.

The jobs found in white collar positions currently represent forty to fifty percent of total employment but such careers will likely disappear in the coming years according to Paul’s assessment this would lead to both the middle class disappearance and the end of consumer-based activities.

    Corporates overlooking the bigger picture?

He voiced his disapproval regarding corporate institutions which celebrate AI efficiency at the expense of future-focused strategies.

The adoption of AI currently delights corporate companies because it reduces labor costs and boosts operational efficiency yet business leaders overlook the essential fact that no top-line exists when consumers lack employment along with earnings.

Paul emphasized that he wants his predictions to prove wrong and stated that India should sustain both overall GDP expansion and per capita GDP growth but he believes this is the most likely future scenario unless manufacturers intensify their efforts.

The thoughts in Paul’s article match those of Zoho’s Sridhar Vembu through his X post where he shows “pessimism toward the software job market independent of AI factors.” Vembu issued a warning about “massive over-capacity” that exists in the IT sector followed by “multiplied inefficiencies” within outsourced services before concluding that AI holds the potential to consume significant portions of boilerplate code which propels large IT implementations.

“Middle class and consumption story at risk”

Paul delivered his warning about job opportunities through LinkedIn because India’s industrial sector fails to create sufficient high-paying positions that might worsen the situation.

The majority of leaders with their followers remain unaware about the substantial threat which AI poses to national economic stability. Production standards in our nation fall significantly short of creating employment opportunities offering ₹3-6 lakh annual salaries. The team working in IT services and BPOs will face major workforce reductions while their businesses may entirely disappear according to him.

Major IT firms including Infosys can succeed but the number of employees they maintain will decrease substantially according to his assessment.

Paul made an estimate that the workforce among professional jobs will disappear by about 40 to 50 percent of its current numbers. The middle class together with the consumption story would vanish if this situation occurred.

Paul condemned businesses who promote AI cost reduction measures without assessing their complete economic consequences.

    A heated discussion on LinkedIn

The post from Paul has drawn more than 700 likes and numerous professionals have commented about the topic.

He has perfectly predicted what lies ahead. The situation today will escalate into a critical point if we do not implement artificial intelligence for white-collar positions.

    AI

According to one contributor the statement mostly affects digital and IT positions. Non-digital work along with manufacturing jobs will experience minor changes because of automation. AI has the potential to develop new research-based positions that will replace eliminated jobs.

The third participant expressed support for the earlier sentiment by stating that our workforce includes low-skilled employees who lack understanding of global market competition. The first step of automation-based job replacement occurs with low-skill tasks before introducing high-quality scalable outputs.

Some users approached the situation with a brighter perspective. According to this user AI will displace work however past productivity shifts like industrialization alongside information technology development led to both positions loss and creation. Speed remains the central issue regarding our ability to develop adequate new employment possibilities.

A user voiced fears about rapid AI advancement which raises major employment doubts. The continual substitution of human staff by AI technologies might destroy consumer income leading to decreased business customer bases. It’s a vicious cycle.”
