The NASA’s Instagram profile mostly consists of impressive pictures of space. In order, galaxies, planets, and nebulae mostly take the center stage. However, the space agency decided to bring something different to the followers.
It posted a picture of a big Sandhill Crane with brown colored big eyes. This rather surprising image immediately attracted the audience of social networks and their desire to find out more information. Some people gave much thought about why NASA has chosen a bird to use in their photos.
The picture depicts the great Sandhill Crane. Two large brown round eyes are looking directly at the viewer sitting on the legs of the bird. Its neck seems so long, and the mere sight of grey body is also apparent. To the right of the crane one can see a tranquil calm expanse of clear blue sky.
More distant is the famous Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) of Kennedy Space Center. With regard to the rocket preparation for the launch preparation, VAB is central. Down below the windows of VAB there is distinct logo depicting the NASA as a ‘Meatball’.

Why the Sandhill Crane is Special at NASA
NASA posted some relevant info about the crane they saw. It is only one of the many species that can be seen at Kennedy Space Center. The region has over 1,500 plants and animals species . The Kennedy Space Center, and the Merritt Island National Wildlife REF act as a twin site. This unusual symbiosis helps support local fauna and flora as well as encourage space research.
More specifically, the study was conducted in the region referred to as the Space Coast, which is considered particularly suitable for Sandhill Cranes. Nesting sites that are associated with freshwater habitats are particularly suitable for anchoring these nests.
These wetlands that supply abundant food for the cranes. Such spoiled and elaborate birds must naturally thrive in such an environment as the Kennedy Space Centre.

The Bird of focus Grus canadensis the Sandhill Crane, is commonly found in Freshwater marsh and wetland ecosystems. These birds feed on both plant and animal matter that they are able to capture much as they are mid-size birds.
Their foods include carbohydrates such as grains, plants and booklet kinds of foods like insects and mice. Sandhill Cranes can reach a size of up to six feet tall. They may live for 20 years and perform seasonal migration.
Popular due to their loud voice and distinctive calls, these cranes are strength illustrated. They are versatile and can well live in other ecosystems such as the NASA wetlands. It also shows that wildlife is also co-existent with space exploration in Kennedy Space Center.
