Plenty of games were announced during The Game Awards 2024, ranging from cozy simulators to RPGS, but one of the night’s most interesting spotlights was the previously revealed Squid Game: Unleashed.
A free-to-play title for both subscribers and non-subscribers, Squid Game: Unleashed is a freemium battle royale game with 32 players and is filled with many of the games featured in show it is based on. The game increases the general level of chaos while still staying true to the ideas found in some of the games featured here.
In addition to games from the show, Squid Game: Unleashed also comes equipped with something that simply fits into the battle royale mode, new challenges. It has a similar gameplay to Fall Guys with a decent number of similar obstacle courses to offer theming the show’s school game concept.
These are not all equal either, however, and some rise above the rest by either copying the show very well or creating a more distinct memory.
- Snow Day
Snow Day is a survival platformer in which participants are to stand on the breaking tiles of ice to be the winner. Considering that players cannot know which tile will further break down, they compulsively rush and leap on the safe tiles in order not to get frustrated and killed in the game.
At the same time, however, players need to avoid being hit by an attack from the other contestants, these attacks are baseball bats and dodge balls. This game is not staged at all to be part of the show so it is not as thrilling as replica show appearances games.
Thus, the purpose of Snow Day is to be the only person who survives on the map. This may prove to be difficult in the sense that the number of players remaining in the game as well as the items they by chance come across have not been considered.
That’s very easy to get knocked around and that’s where one needs to be on the ball. This particular game is quite entertaining if you are a battle royale type, but other than relying on chance and running on ice to avoid falling into it this is not an excellent multiplayer game.
- Late for School
Late for School is an insane obstacle course of which players are set in the middle of the map and their goal is to get from one side of the map all the way to the school gates on the other side of the playground. This one is a bumpy obstacle course with lots of tough tasks that are to be completed on bikes, passing such complicated items as school buses, electrified pools for swimming, and hot BBQ grills, but not on the grill, please.
In the event that you are struck by any of these challenges, well, you have to go back to the last convenient point. Just the first checkpoint may be difficult to overcome and it is not uncommon to have to stop at the start over and over again.
This obstacle course is another game not available in the original show, but this game has links to the show in one way or the other. Since Squid Game is a game competition based on children playground games the idea of being late for school is actually on point.
Late for School is not the most engaging obstacle course simply because it only bears a very remote relation to the show , but if not handled carefully, it can be quite difficult. It is better to be stuck in a school bus than end up there but the point is there is too much going on all the time to stop and admire more of the level design.
- Floor is Lava
The last yet another example of platformer game where contestants simply try to jump from one platform to another – Floor Is Lava. Likely similar to Snow Day, the aim is to escape the constantly increasing level of the lava. Every platform rises or falls, and as the lava rises slowly up, the goal is to get as high as you can.
A common imaginative game for children, Floor Is Lava fits in perfectly with Squid Game: Loose, which here created a better picture than Snow Day.
Even though this is not originally from Korea they fit with the theme well and the idea is easily understood meaning there are constant active challenges. Where familiar threats like dodgeballs and baseball bats are equally important here, and are probably more interesting in a setting with greater height variation.
- Stair Race
Stair Race is another obstacle course in Squid Game: Unleashed. While there isn’t an obstacle course in the show Squid Game, this obstacle course places heavy themes from the show including the location of the show, and reminds of the stairs in the show.
The objective is to imagine that the place is a World Cup building and the only way up is by climbing the stairs while trying to dodge the obstacles throughout. You don’t have a simple staircase, many moving parts and a few scary heights and drops there as well.
Of the games, many obstacle courses that are available are difficult to undertake; however, Stair Race is the best overall. There are more entertaining things to solve here and game elements, like jumping from one platform to another, or between shapes. One fun thing that must be avoided, as with most of the other games, are getting items that make the obstacle course a living nightmare when done with rivals.
- Dalgona
Dalgona is a game which is borrowed from the show but the game we play is entirely different from the show. While the original Squid Game, Dalgona is the act of tracing a shape and cutting it from a small cookie without breaking it.
In Squid Game: Unleashed, Dalgona depends more on many persons as many players in a certain tower of these giant-sized cookies. Players have to trace its perimeter to destroy the level of the tower and get to another level, the idea being to get all the way down, and then race to the center.
More heat is added to the game version of Dalgona through adding Unique Variants such as having three cookies per tower with only one per tower able to lead to a lower level upon breaking. So in terms of the battle royale the original version of the game may not be that exciting nor fun and while the redux isn’t one of the best it does offer some changes of interest thus making it a good enough online game.
- Glass Bridge
Glass Bridge is a game in Squid Game: That was taken directly from the show and that is Unleashed. As up for its TV show counterpart, Glass Bridge comprises of a course made from glass panels. The panels themselves are insipid and visually nondescript; one does not need to touch a panel to know that some of them shatter when handled and cause players to start at the game’s nadir, the spiky black void.
This game is as close a copy as it gets from the original game however it does not include the weapons players can wield. For example, if you were to be experimenting with certain glass panels, be careful of players using a baseball bat; he might just knock you off to the next which will collapse under your weight.
It’s still, however, a very simple game, and the only crucial, distinctive aspect – apart from the totally different theme – are these panels, which are much larger than those in the original show. Indeed it is, a fun multiplayer game, and it is quite so a psychologically very loyal copy.
- Squid Game
Squid Game is one kind of challenge which is featured in both the mobile game and the TV show. Based on a set of contestants who must remain within the contour bounds of the squid to stand a chance of winning. At the outer part there are weapons that can sometimes be employed properly to knock rivals out of bounds, however, there are many people who will do the same to you.

Red Light, Green Light is one of Squid Games absolute gems as this is a game from the show everyone will definitely be familiar with the song from. just as running toward the end zone, but only when able to do so under a “ green light ” fee.
When the song is complete and it turns to the red light the players must freeze or risk getting shot by Synth. Players will be killed, and they will have to try it again, to get to the checkpoint or the finish line, respectively.
And in its basic form, this game is almost exactly like the show, with just some additions that can make things really different. For instance, there will be instances where some grass can be used such that players can easily camouflage themselves. Sometimes, there can be an offense that will bring the players to the start line and so on.
Regardless of the variation, the goal remains the same. Just watch out for players with weapons, because those who are hit right as the song ends will end up being shot. This game is overall simple, easy, and fun for a battle royale, making it the biggest standout in Squid Game: Unleashed.
