OTT Releases: Your weekly dose of OTT releases is here and the coming week has both, movies and shows to fit all your streaming moods. Vijay Varma plays Captain Sharan Dev in IC 814: The Kandahar Highjack, a series based on the 1999 Indian Airlines Flight hijacking; Kay Kay Menon stars in Murshid, a gangster thriller exploring the Mumbai underworld; Hollywood legend Adam Sandler presents a new stand-up comedy special titled Love You; The Lord of the Rings: Here is the continuation of Tolkien’s magical world in season 2 of The Rings of Power.
ADAM SANDLER: LOVE YOU (August 27)
Adam Sandler: Love You is a brand new special by the stand-up comedian who has been performing for more than 20 years to show the audience his new come back in the sphere of performing arts in a rather naive but genuinely funny as hell manner. Written and directed by Josh Safdie, this is Sandler at his edgiest, in a no-holds-barred performance that includes original songs, improvised comedy and even an unscripted interlude from some of Sandler’s real life dogs. It gets the spirit of Sandler’s lively comedy but at the same time shows how effectively he can endear himself to the audience . This project marks his first comedy special since 2018’s Adam Sandler: It was 100% fresh .
ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING (August 27)
Coming back with its fourth season as expected, Only Murders in the Building continues after the events of yet another twist in season three whereby Charles’s stunt double and close friend, Sazz Pataki, is killed. Our Old World favourites, Charles and Anthony AKA Oliver, (Steve Martin and Martin Short) and their younger companion Mabel (Selena Gomez) are all set to solve another mystery. This season puts them from the cosy confines of The Arconia to the dazzling glitz of Hollywood where their hit show is being turned into a movie. While investigating deeper on Sazz’s death, all the three are in a state of dilemma that perhaps it was Charles who was the intended target.
UNTAMED ROYALS (August 28)
Untamed Royals is a Mexican drama series that is yet to be released and focuses on the lives of reckless teenagers that live sheltered lives. These young elites, protected by their huge financial capacity and political connections, get involved in hi–jinx that start from mere pranks and graduate to all forms of criminality. Instead, the effects of their actions are felt by the weak and helpless in society amplifying the degree of difference between the protected position of the elite and the struggling nature of the poor.
CHASTITY HIGH (August 29)
This Japanese drama is centred on an ultra-elite high school where there is a strict no-romance policy that is put to blanco that any student found involved in a romantic relationship then is expelled. Ichica Arisawa is a smart and talented girl who helps her classmates to conceal their romances with each other for a fee. Her undercover assignment garners another twist when she works with a student named Ryogo Maki, who is also not your ordinary learner. Adding up the conflict, the tension rises as a new character, “Love Exposer,” a fake social media in the school, appears and unmasking some students involved into extramarital affairs.
IC 814: THE KANDAHAR HIJACK (August 29)
This is an Anubhav Sinha show, it recounts the shocking real life event of the longest hijacking in India which took place in December 1999 where the Indian Airlines Flight 814 was hijacked by militants and taken to Kandahar, Afghanistan. This series gives a rather realistic and detailed dedication of the seven days standoff, their stories intermingling with 188 passengers, the crew members and Indian authorities who tried to negotiate for their release. Vijay Varma plays the protagonist’s role in the form of Captain Sharan Dev who is the pilot of IC 814. It also has Naseeruddin Shah, Dia Mirza and Pankaj Kapur in the main actors field aforesaid.
THE LORDOF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER (August 29)
Back in the ever-grayening Middle-earth, season two of The Lord of the Rings resumes where the first season left off with Sauron (Charlie Vickers), exposed and cast out by Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), starting to get his groove back. On account of these losses, Sauron HAS no choice BUT rely on his intelligence in order to create the Rings of Power through which he will bend the free folk of Middle-earth to his will.
This implies that the season explores more into the back story of the series based on Tolkien’s work majorly exploring the evildoers. Sauron in the guise of Annatar the elf is positioned to take advantage of the elven smiths particularly Celebrimbor thereby plot pushing a large fight that involves elves, orcs and men. At the same time, the dwarves, led by their resistless king Durin III (Peter Mullan), suffered from internal conflicts and clan divisions because of the temptation of the Rings, which drove even those who wore them into madness.
INTERROGATION (August 30)
Interrogation is an intriguing murder most foul drama based in the life of retired judge, whose death leaves his immediate family in havoc. When four of his men are interrogated by the police , one realizes the web of lies that have been created starts to unravel. In different suspects, narratives come up with new elements that make the investigation even more complex.
The process makes the authorities never to relax as they try to ascertain the actual facts from the various misconceptions and twist of events. They include Darshan Jariwala, Rajpal Yadav, Girish Kulkarni and Yashpal Sharma among others.
MURSHID (August 30)
This gangster thriller stars Kay Kay Menon as the protagonist, Murshid Pathan, a once-indomitable mafia captain that dominated Bombay’s gangland for twenty years. More than a decade passes and Murshid is again drawn out of retirement to confront his old enemy Farid (Zakir Hussain) who has entangled his son in some dangerous business.
When Murshid comes back to the evil sphere that he used to rule he meets intrigues, betrayals, and great animosity among the leaders of the region. Complication to this story is the protagonist Inspector Kumar Pratap Rana of M, played by Tanuj Virwani, is Murshid ‘s adopted son and thus, a son torn between his duties as a policeman and loyalty to the man he owes everything to.
THE DELIVERANCE (August 30)
Based on a true story, The Deliverance is the story of a black single mother, Ebony Jackson, who with her children gets a new house, which might bring them a new chance. But they end up being surrounded by strange and unimaginable horrible events that bring a great danger of separation. When Child Protective Services get involved suspecting Ebony of abuse, then the audience is assured that the struggle is not only against the society’s scorn but also against a dark spiritual power. Ebony now needs to struggle in a religious war for her faith, her life and for the souls of her children.
