Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji, film director Karan Johar will speak at the Australian Parliament House before Indian Film Festival of Melbourne
Rani Mukerji and Karan Johar will be giving a talk at the Australian Parliament House on August 13. The 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is scheduled to open from August 15. Mumbai, Bollywood’s biggies, Actor Rani Mukerji and director Karan Johar are planned to make a historic speech at the Australian Parliament House in the run-up to the 15 th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and the organisers of the event revealed it on Monday November 5.
52-year-old Johar and 46-year-old Mukerji have worked together in films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai wherein Johar directed the film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna They will be addressing the keynote address on August 13 before the gala.
IFFM beginning August 15 to August 25 in Melbourne will display classic films as well as the new breed of Indian films. The topic ‘Indian cinema as a global force and culture shaper’ will be delivered by key note speakers comprising of distinguished dignitaries, members of Australian Parliament and different ministers.
Mukerji said that she is ‘happy’ to be the flag bearer of Indian film industry at the Australian Parliament House. “It will be indeed a privilege for me to address on this seemingly fledging cultural relation between Australia and India via cinema, this is a landmark occasion for our fraternity,” said the actor.
Johar said he felt privileged to be given the opportunity to address the ‘historic event’ which was to mark the spectacular evolution of Indian film industry. “The journey of the stories we as an industry create, is phenomenal and this journey proves how far the cultural face of India travels, I thank the house, the MPs for having invited me and to be part of representing such legacy of cinema and storytelling,” he also said.
The 46-year-old also avows that Indian films “entertain a lot of people in this world”, and “give a lot of color to the lives of people”.
“Being an entertainer, I enjoyed people enjoying the ride of the emotions that our cinema has to offer most times and I am honored to represent my country which is so rich in its diverse culture and its cinema which reflects it to an extent in the Australian Parliament,” Mukerji says.
Johar joins in and seeing the ramifications of India films being popular in the international market, he says he is ‘privileged to be part of this occasion and happy to be part of the journey of the Indian cinema’.
“It is fascinating to observe that the journey of the stories that we as an industry narrate goes this far and this is quite symbolic of the rising clout of the cultural value of Indian cinema,’ said the 52-year-old. “I have been an invitee of the house, the members of the parliament and indeed privileged to be representing what has been a rich cinematic history and craft of storytelling.”
Besides, the official start of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on August 15 will be accompanied by the release of a stamp dedicated to the memory of Yash Chopra.
A statement by the director of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Mitu Bhowmik Lange stated 2024 a significant year for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. “The fact that Rani Mukherji and Karan Johar delivered their speeches at the Australian parliament house denotes the fact that the festival is becoming larger and is being recognised more,” She said.
