The celebrations of the 63 rd birthday of former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi were a high-powered affair over the weekend, in London, when close friends of Modi were present, including his partner in scam business man Vijay Mallya.
On Instagram, Modi showed snapshots of the night, who uploaded videos in which he was observed cutting a birthday cake, dancing, and mingling in guests at Maddox Club in Mayfair. This exclusive venue is allegedly spending at least 1,000 Pounds (approximately Rs 1.18 lakh) on a single table.
Specially designed birthday song in the backdrop plays in the videos and its note is repeated, Happy birthday, Lalit. King of smiles.” The videos present Modi as partying with his friends, industry lights, and party decorations.
On a writing board to his girlfriend Rima Bouri, Modi acknowledged that it was a beautiful birthday dinner with friends and family and a dance? What a party you have brought [Rima], my love of life.
It is also in London where Mallya, former IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the former owner saw himself in the list of guests.
In July, earlier, Mallya and Modi were seen singing about Franks Sinatra in a splendid private party held in London.
The karaoke party that Modi termed his yearly summer celebration was held at his London home and it was attended by over 310 guests some of whom flew in by air.
Cricketer Chris Gayle was one of them and posted a snap with both Modi and Mallya and credit them with the lovely evening. In his post, Modi jokingly said the video would break the internet and he gave credit to the karaoke to musician Carlton Braganza.

The two men are living in UK having been charged seriously in India. Its founder, Modi, who was charged on several occasions by the ED with money laundering and breaking the law of FEMA, left in 2010 and indicates that the charges are politically motivated.
This year Mallya who had been declared a fugitive economic offender due to default on loans by Kingfisher Airlines lost his appeal against a 2021 bankruptcy order in the UK. He has argued that more money has been recovered by the Indian authorities than the debt of the airline and still protests against the fraud case of CBI.
Presence of Vijay Mallya in Modi’s party Strikes Chord

One of the prominent figures in the videos was Vijay Mallya, another figure that similarly to Modi has been living in London after being under legal trouble in India. The two have often been caught up together in such events and their friendship is well documented. In the first half of the year 2017, Modi uploaded a video of the two singing karaoke with former Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Chris Gayle.
They are friends not just in parties. Modi has paid tribute to Mallya on numerous occasions as retaining support with his early IPL, describing him as his best friend. Since appearing on a podcast, Modi wrote on X: He was the first to endorse me making the IPL blindly… And you will never find thankless my part.
With the release of the party videos, the social media was immediately flooded with views. The lavish venue, a turn out of celebrities, and closeness between Modi and Mallya were many of the comments that people made. Other people had taken the time to remind about their decades old court battles, the financial misdeeds of Modi as an IPL team owner and cases of loan defaults by Mallya.
