Hurun Philanthropists List 2025: India The richest families in India are more generational than ever before, according to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropists List 2025.
The report further indicates that the leading 191 philanthropists of the country, out of which 12 have been first time entrants, make a total of Rs 10,380 crore which has gone up significantly by 85 percent in just the last three years.
Emphasizing an emerging culture of massive generosity, the 25 leading donors on their own have donated Rs 50,000 crore in three years that is an average of Rs 46 crore per day.
To become the most generous person in India is the fourth time Shiv Nadar founder of HCL Technologies, and his family took the first place in the list with annual donations amounting to Rs 2708 crore and goes to education and social development to the largest extent.
Eventually, Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries takes the silver in the second position as his family contributed to the cause by donating a total of 626 crore.
The CSR expenditure of the company was 1,309 crore – an amount higher than the required CSR contribution of 261 crore.

UNM Foundation Sudhir Mehta and Samir Mehta see their ranking move nine notches higher in the top 10 to be ranked number 9 in terms of donations of worth Rs. 189 crore, which is a 69 percent improvement over last year as the foundation takes an increased interest in social development projects.
Rohini Nilekani, who is placed at No.8 in the top 10, is also the most generous woman philanthropist in India and has given a gift of 204 crore this year.
Nikhil and Nithin Kamath of Zerodha, who donated Rs 147 crore are on the next list as the youngest.
In the meantime, individual contributions of professional leaders, including the former chairman of L&T Group, A M Naik (Rs 54 crore), Amit and Archana Chandra (Rs 47 crore), and venture capitalists, Prashanth Prakash and Amitha Prashanth (Rs 17 crore) stand at almost Rs 800 crore in the last three years.
Among large Givers include Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani

Mukesh Ambani and family came 2 nd at 626 crore donation which was 54% more than last year. They have engaged in education, health, and empowerment of women in their contributions via the Reliance Foundation. Gautam Adani and family contributed the 5 th contribution of ₹386 crore and its major contribution is to education and skill development.
The Hinduja family, Sudhir and Samir Mehta, Cyrrus and Adar Poonawala made their debut in the top 10. The contribution of the Hinduja family was 298 crore and it had increased by 150 percent and they are 7 th. In the meantime, donations by Sudhir and Samir Mehta increased to 189 crore centred on healthcare and education projects.
Philanthropy and thematic and Regional Trends
Most of the donors focused on education, with 4166 crore being attracted. Mumbai was the top recipient of donors, next New Delhi and next Bengaluru. Maharashtra had the largest allocations of CSR. Interestingly, the pharmaceutical industry accounted the highest number of donors at 16 percent followed by the information technology and automobile respective and petrochemical industries at 8 percent.
Increase in Self-made Philanthropists
The ten leading philanthropists gave 56 percent of the total contributions which were ₹5,834 crore. The mean donation increased to ₹54 crore in 2025 as compared to 43 crore in 2024. The list of self-made philanthropists went up to 101 with 24 women being included with Rohini Nilekani topping the list after giving 204 crore.
