    Top 10 colleges with richest alumni; an Indian university ranks #8

    The 10 richest college alumni: There are some colleges around the world that have a strong reputation of setting up billionaires.

    Salas Diaz and Young (2024) rank Harvard University at the top where there are 104 billionaire alumni, excluding such prodigies as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.

    In the very close selections are Stanford University and University of Pennsylvania, which have 69 and 38 billionaires, respectively.

    On Stanford’s list, there are such co-founders as Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang and DoorDash co-founder Andy Fang, and Elon Musk, a graduate of Penn.

    Other leading schools of thought are Columbia University, Massachusetts institute of technology (MIT), and Yale University.

    Columbia has a legendary investor, Warren Buffett and MIT has given out industrial leaders such as Charles Koch of Koch industries.

    Although the U.S. universities take the leading positions, Asian ones are growing rapidly. The University of Mumbai, Tsinghua University, Peking University and Seoul National University are now ranked among the 20 trackers of billionaire graduates in the world.

    Baidu co-founder Robin Li is a Peking University graduate, and the richest man in India, Mukesh Ambani, of Reliances Industries, attended the university of Mumbai.

    The Moscow State University of Russia has also ranked among the top 20 with the exception of billions made by EuroChem founder Andrey Melnichenko.

    Not IIM, Nor IIT: This Indian University Has Produced The Most Billionaires Alumni

    In an analysis conducted by Venture Capitalist, the University of Mumbai has topped the list of top 21 universities in the world that give rise to the highest number of billionaires, thus, becoming the only Indian university to feature in the list. The results rely on the publicly available data of Salas Diaz and Young (2024), a list of educational qualifications of the wealthiest people globally.

    Mumbai University has 22 billionaire students and it is the same number as Cornell University (ranked 7th), Overshadowing global names such as Tsinghua University (19), New York University (18), and the University of Southern California (17). It is also ranked the only Indian university to appear amongst the world top 21. Other prominent alumni would include Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries and the wealthiest man in Asia, which is an indicator of the increasing international impact of the university.
