The 2025 Primetime Emmy nominations are out and among their most popular shows, revived shows, and brand new ones have found their place in the roster of nominees put out by the Television Academy. Just as IndieWire Marcus Jones foreseen, the 2025 Emmy is a race among returning champions, they are lined up together in the contest with new buzzing shows.

The 24,000 members of the Television Academy must have their work cut out since previous Emmy winners are all back in the contention field with titles such as Severance, The white lotus, The last of us, Squid game, The handmaid, hacks, The bear, Abbott elementaries, Only murders in the building and What we do in the shadows.

And this is not even counting the roster of heavy-hitting series that have arrived this season: Pitt, Paradise, The Studio, Dying for Sex and IndieWire Honors-eligible Adolescence are all critically acclaimed hits.

In the category of actresses, from Liza Colon-Zayas (“The Bear”) to the three actors of the series ” The White Lotus”: Parker Posey, Leslie Bibb and Carrie Coon, to Catherine OHara and Kathryn Hahn in the series ” The Studio, ” the comedy classes are the female ones that will be particularly tight. And be sure not to forget about Emmy winners such as Hacks and Abbott Elementary as well.

The Outstanding Television Movie category also has an odd year, but this one features the Emmy-winning creator of the succession Jesse Armstrong HBO film Mountainhead versus the fourth film in the software Bridget Jones franchise (which was the box office hit in foreign theaters and premiered in the United States on Peacock exclusively). Both did not get applause shockingly.

And the Emmys voting ended on Monday, June 23, with the announcement of the nominations today, Tuesday July 15, by the breakthrough star Brenda Song on 2025 Netflix series Running Point (titles released in 2025) and What We Do in the Shadow star in Harvey Guillen .

Surprisingly, however, as it was anticipated, the most-nominated drama dramas happened to be the drama called Severance, boasting 27 nominations followed by a limited series called the Penguin that obtained 24 nominations. The White Lotus” and the Studio also fall in the top category of the most-nominated titles, with 23 nominations under their belts. The Studio won auteur Martin Scorsese, in fact, his first Emmy nomination in a guest-starring role.

Ron Howard was nominated in his first ever acting Emmy Award in the season of the show, on The Studio where he was a guest star. Even with all the years on both The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days, Howard hadn t get an acting tip before, not until the satirical Hollywood series.

The Series Adolescence ruled the roost with 13 tally marks, with co-creator Jack Thorne garnering an Outstanding Writing in a Limited or Anthologist Series or Movie and Philip Barantini becoming honored in the directing category. There were also 13 nominations with the film, The Pitt.

Harrison Ford gained his initial Emmy nomination ever in the area of Shrinking under Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy area. Ford and Kathy Bates became the oldest candidates in their categories, being the oldest Emmy nominees ever; Owen Cooper from the show Adolescence is the most youthful.

Limited series featuring heavy-hitted stars such as “Presumed Innocent” and “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” also received Emmy nominations, as did Javier Bardem, Ruth Negga, Chloë Sevigny, Bill Camp, Peter Sarsgaard and Peter Sarsgaard.
