Research suggests investigators have discovered the solution to the complicated series of triple fatalities and attempted suicide in the city during late February. Three members of a family lost their lives by suicide in their residence situated at Tangra on the outskirts of Kolkata on February 19.
Two siblings and the child of their brother intentionally crashed their vehicle into a pillar to carry out a suicide attempt. Authorities learned from the hospital interview about the dead relatives that the brothers hid at their place.
Prasun Dey one of the brothers involved has taken responsibility for killing wife Romi Dey and both their 14-year-old daughter and sister-in-law Sudeshna Dey. During investigation the police discovered that the murder victims died because he owed a debt of Rs 16 crore.
The two brothers Pranay and Prasun Dey shared their Tangra residence with their respective wives. Aside from the brothers Pranay and Prasun both lived with their families in this house.
During police interrogation Mr Dey described as a businessman how he befriended his spouse along with his brother and brother’s wife for a suicide plan due to their debt burden. Failed attempts to carry out suicide resulted in the fatal incidents.
Mr. Dey and his family members formed an unsuccessful Suicide Pact that ended in murder
On February 17 the six-family members received rice pudding with added sleeping pills according to Anandabazar Patrika’s sources. The individuals survived through the night without death. After this revelation the brothers together with their wives advanced to their backup suicide plan. According to the sources both partners decided to assist one another in their suicide plans.
The sources reported that their children remained unaware about the mysterious scheme.
Prasun Dey stated his first involvement in killing his daughter involved pressing the pillow onto her face with help from his wife who kept her feet restrained. Romi then proceeded to cut her wrists after her husband Prasun finished his actions. The sources reported that Dey failed to kill his wife with the wrist slashes so he proceeded to slit her throat followed by a similar method to end his sister-in-law.
Prasun Dey along with his brother and nephew went out of the house by car during the night. The males operated their vehicle into a pillar sometime after 3 am. According to his brother’s reports the two men deliberately took this action to die by suicide. The police intend to question Pranoy Dey and subsequently take him into police custody. Medical personnel treat the patient at present in hospital facilities.
Every day the Dey brothers Prasun and Pranay received medical care at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital under police surveillance because of their injuries from a suspected suicide attempt.
‘Rs 16 Crore Debt’
According to recent interrogation results Prasun Dey has disclosed that the family owed a substantial amount of Rs 16 crore in debt. The debt amounting to Rs 16 crore became the reason for the brothers to make their fatal decision according to Indian Express.
According to the news update the EMIs amounting to Rs 47 lakh were approaching due on two of three vehicles the family owned.
Prasun Dey received police arrests since Kolkata Police questioned him extensively after hospital release yesterday.
Law officials brought him to court for proceedings during the early hours of today. The court decided to hold Prasun Dey in police detention until March 6.
